Do you have a pdf of an unofficial transcript? I’ve heard that works.
Yes you clearly are borderline. Send a pdf or the screenshot should be fine.
@luckie1367 No I just have an academic history which shows all the classes that are in progress. Not in pdf though, I can only take screenshot. My school does provide unofficial transcript but I heard it would take few days and it’s an actual copy.
@bizmlover you should post your stats and major. Curious at to what is considered borderline vs the average gpa for your major
@History2Law Yea, I think I’m borderline candidate.
My stats:
Major: math/econ and statistics (alternative)
GPA: 3.63
TAP Certified
Major preps: I’m taking 3 last math classes (Cal 3, Linear Ag., DE)
ECs: works 35+ hours (management position), build an exported business and have other business experiences. Almost no/minor volunteer activities.
PS: pretty solid I think
@lindyk8 thank you, I’ll do that. Hopefully it’s good sign
@luckie1367 I have been taking courses following my CC igetc articulation. I will talk to a counselor about my language requirement and see if I can get it certify w my official transcript from Vietnam.
@lindyk8 I understand what you are trying to say.I’m gonna see how my CC wanna do it and not contacting UCLA
@bizmlover, yeah it’s those last three math classes, I bet. They just want to verify. So I’m thinking, you’re leaning more toward in once they see you’re still in the 3 math classes.
Good plan @npham95 , please let us know what they say!
Agree with Lindy. bizmlover, I also think once you give them proof of your Math classes, you are almost in:)
good luck.
Lucky, I have heard EC’s are not that important for transfers. Lindy-What do you think?
@HumbleTeen are you referring to me? There are several lucky/luckies now on this thread.
Personally, I believe for holistic schools like UCLA/UCB, ECs are important. Competition is so high for selective majors that GPA and pre req completion is not enough.
Plus, I feel like we should all give back in some way, not just to pad our application.
I also agree ECs can help a lot, esp with borderline, although as a transfer they don’t, in theory, weigh that heavily, except perhaps in highly-impacted majors, and only then if the EC is related to your major. (Haas will want them, though, for sure.) If you’re working long hours, plus taking a full course load, esp in a STEM, a high GPA should suffice (the job would = your EC), although as luckie said an EC can aid your cause, But not if you just grab one when you’re applying (in other words, cramming for the finals). They’re kind of hip to that ploy.
Could anyone answer to my question please?
I applied for Int’l development studies which requires me to finish 6 major prep courses.
I only completed 2 of them and am taking 4 courses this spring. Does this mean that I do not have any chance to get in regardless of my 3.98 GPA and ECs?
What does your assist page say @twinflower ?
@luckie1367 It says those 6 major prep courses MUST be completed by Spring 2015.
Since you will be completing all 6, I think you have a shot.
Ideally, you want to complete them as soon as possible, so UC admissions can look at your grades in all pre reqs, but the past is the past.
I really appreciate your response @luckie1367. I guess the only thing I can do now is to focus on my classes.
You’re allowed to complete major prep by spring. And you have a strong GPA.
Hi @lindyk8 and @luckie1367
So i went to my college this week and talk to them about my language requirement and they confirmed with me that i will only need proof of my middle school transcript and i should be ok. However, I plan to send this message to UCLA through the “Current applicant” link in the admission contact list. Can you take a look and see if it’s alright?
"Hello Mr. and Ms. Evaluator from UCLA Undergraduate Admission,
On my application, in the additional comment section, I mentioned that I was in the process of applying for a summer pre-medical program and if accepted, I will not be able to complete my planned courses for the summer of 2015. However, recently, I figured that i will not participate in the program and will surely able to complete the three courses I indicated in my application for the summer of 2015. In addition, my community college will also certify my language requirement for the IGETC as I finished middle school in a foreign country where English is not my first language. Therefore, with this certification along with the completion of three additional courses in Summer, I will be fully certified for the IGETC.
Thank you for your time and your work in evaluating my application"
Do you guys think this is thorough and decently written enough? lol I’m just too nervous about it. Thank you for your inputs.
Just write:
“I am not doing a summer medical program, and will complete , _ and _____ [insert three classes by name] this summer. LOTE is satisfied via international transcripts. I will have full IGETC by end of summer.”
You were wayyy too long winded. Just get to the point.
