@Collegeyadayada do you know when they notify people for admissions for those applying to CoE?
So here’s the deal guys. I talked to my team and although we are currently in Pre-alpha at this point we’re going to share our website with you guys that we’re using to help students in full next year.
http://www.collegetowntransfer.org/
If you could please forward all your questions to our staff email: admin@collegetowntransfer.org (or use the message feature found on our contact page) then we would best be able to answer your questions.
Our goal as a company is to provide you all the things we always wish we had when applying. We will do the best we can to provide all the help we can. We just ask that you be patient as we all have exams going on and are very busy right now.
Please remember that our Non profit (in the process of registering currently) is in Pre-alpha. We have a lot of massive changes going on you will see in the coming weeks.
Any feedback is much appreciated. Take care and share our website if you found it helpful (core content is lacking at this time).
We are mobile friendly!
if we have AP scores that will get us credit for some of the required courses, do we need to send the AP scores with our application or is it okay to self report and send them later if offered admission? I’m just wondering because I have one not-so-good AP score that I wouldn’t want the admissions committee to see but college board doesn’t allow you to only send specific scores. thanks!!
Hey everyone, I submitted my application yesterday and haven’t heard anything from Cornell. Just wondering if there is some portal where I can keep track of my materials and admission status.
I’m a sophomore from Truman State University, MO who is looking to transfer to the CS program at Cornell. I made some silly decisions after graduating from HS and ended up taking a gap year. While Truman has been great for me, overall I do not feel particularly challenged and thus decided to apply for transfer to a few schools this semester.
Given my stats below, could someone tell me whether it’s worth a shot (kind of a useless question since I’ve already applied) and what reasons I might have to be optimistic?
High school stats:
- IB score: 44/45
- Dean’s list for 3 subjects and top student in the cohort for one academic year.
- SAT I: 2290 (720 CR, 770 W, 800 Math) - I took it once during junior year in HS
- SAT II: 770 Math I, 800 Math II, Physics 800, Spanish 730
Awards: - Honor rolls for AMC 10 & 12. Qualified for the AIME on both occasions. Wasn’t eligible for the USAMO since I went to high school in Singapore.
- Various medals in math contests on national and regional levels.
Extracurriculars: - Founded a philanthropic club that focused on helping children with cleft lips/palates. Coordinated a bunch of fund-raising events and headed the club on a mission trip to Indonesia.
- Member of A Capella band & football varsity team.
College Stats:
- GPA: 4.0
- Double majors in Computer Science & Mathematics.
- Presidential Scholarship which covers 4-year tuition fee.
Awards: - 3rd place at Missouri Inter-Collegiate Math Contest. Top 300 and school winner for the Putnam.
- Bronze Medal at the International Collegiate Programming Contest for the Midwest region. Came extremely close to qualifying for the World Final.
- Various prizes in hackathons and programming contests.
Extracurriculars: - Interned at Google during my freshman summer and about to intern there again this summer. Worked in SearchAds team where I did a lot of data processing.
- Interned at a fairly respectable company called FPT back in my hometown during my gap year where I developed a web app that detects vulnerable credit card data from banks’ servers. I also worked as a SAT instructor in an English center at the same time.
- Academic tutors for 1 programming class and 1 calculus class. Worked with my professor on designing a tutor scheduling software.
- Alumni liaison: raised 10,000 dollars worth of fund for the school.
- Hosted a 3-day summer camp for 400 secondary school students.
- Organized a mission trip to a remote province in my country to provide free English and programming lessons for the indigenous children there.
- Participated in mission trips to Chicago and Indianapolis to provide food and basic necessities to the homeless and recovering drug addicts.
I have 2 teacher recommendations. One is likely to be glowing since I built a very strong rapport with the CS professor. The other I asked from my math professor. While I did well in his class, I wasn’t very proactive so the letter could potentially be generic and impersonal. I put in a lot of time into my essay but I doubt they will be stellar since writing has never been my strength.
Some background info:
- International Asian male who will be asking for a lot of financial aid. My family could only contribute 15 - 20k per year.
I would really appreciate any insight or feedback!
I’ve already committed to Binghamton for Fall 2016 because I don’t expect to get accepted to Cornell, but if on the off chance they do accept me and give me a decent offer, I might withdraw my admittance from Bing and enroll in Cornell (my family makes $200k+ per year but I’ll have to take out loans at Bing because we can barely afford that).
I’m currently at a SUNY community college for financial reasons^^ although I was accepted by all 15 schools I applied to senior year (I was worried I would be rejected by most so I applied to too many)
High School Stats:
GPA: 3.7 unweighted
SAT: 1790 (520 Math, 650 Writing, 550 Reading) yikes i’m bad at math
AP/Honors: AP World History, AP US History, AP Macroeconomics, AP Psychology, English honors 9-12, History honors 9 (took AP 10-12), received 4 college credits for Spanish my senior year (A)
EC: Leo club, Foreign Language Journal (Head Editor), volunteered w/ my Gaelic Football club for 8+ years, Spanish Honor Society, NHS, High Honors all 4 years
College:
GPA: 3.5 and am in the Honors Program
Courses: Have taken 25+ credits of honors classes, and am currently taking 18 credits this semester even though I only needed 11 to graduate.
Dean’s List
EC: Writer/editor for school newspaper, member of Sigma Chi Eta (speech honor society)
Study Abroad: 4 weeks at the University of Cambridge in summer 2015
Teacher Rec’s: One from my english professor who is also my advisor and head of the Honors Program (received an A in her class and was recommended to submit several papers to the Beacon conference), and one from my biology professor (also received one of the only A’s in my class)
I was set on majoring in public relations when I transferred but recently changed my mind to biology and applied to CALS as a bio major. Accepted Bing’s offer because it’s much cheaper and I doubt I’m getting into Cornell but who knows!
“my family makes $200k+ per year but I’ll have to take out loans at Bing because we can barely afford that” confusing!
@lostaccount we have very high taxes and 3 other kids in my family
Is there anyone whose application status marked as complete? or who has gotten any email from Cornell about missing items? I sent my transcripts on 2/3 but it has still not checked… I sent everything very early since I heard that Cornell is rolling admission but seems to be worthless now…
@jackpotgirl777 I sent out my college report, high school and college transcripts, all in a same package, three weeks ago, but so far only the college report has been checked…
@ibtes96 Did you send them or did a college/high school official send them?
Hey all, I have a question about the Mid-Term Report. I found on Cornell’s website that they have a specific one (found at http://admissions.cornell.edu/sites/admissions.cornell.edu/files/2016%20Mid-Term%20Report%20UCA.pdf ). I had my professors fill this one out specifically for Cornell, then I emailed it in last week. I was just wondering if anyone else sent in the Mid-Term Report in this manner and has had it processed, since I was looking on the portal and it gave conflicting information (it didn’t mention whether the Mid-Term Report could be sent by email or not). Thanks!
Do you know if there’s way to confirm if they have received the mail?other than the checklist.
@YGh995 I do not believe there’s another way to check besides the portal. The portal explicitly says " At this time we are unable to respond to phone calls or email inquiries about items received," so I don’t think calling or emailing about confirming documents will be of any use.
@Transferdood I obtained transcripts in sealed envelopes from my schools and sent them myself.
Out of curiosity, how many people applied to the ILR school at Cornell?
Can someone chance me? I’m applying to the ILR school as an incoming Sophomore.
I’m currently attending a top thirty school. I have a 4.0 GPA as of now and I plan on keeping it that way. My SATS are mediocre (1960). In high school I was part of the girls JV/Varsity team, Mock Trial, and NHS. I was also a college ambassador for my high school. I have three years of leadership experience at a local organization in my community and for my junior and senior year, I had law internships. I took 7 APs in HS but I’m only claiming 3. As for my involvement in college, I’m currently taking 5 classes, I’m part of three clubs (no leadership positions) and I also have a work study position.
How do we know if our application has been sent for review?
If I’m not mistaken it will say it is being reviewed on the applicant portal
Are all of your materials checked on the checklist? should I be concerned If some of them are missing? I submitted all of them at the beginning of the month.
@YGh995 I sent all my documents on 2/25 and just 2 days ago all of them were checked for received. I wouldn’t worry.
