Did anyone get regents at UCD?
Hey any phil majors here? Message me if you can!
@TheBayorLA Hey! I am!
@lsierra77 well dang…that’s impressive O.O I’d say you have a good shot!
@lsierra77 As I’m sure you know, Communications is one of the most impacted majors. The Fall 2016 admitted student profile shows that you are at least between the 25th percentile (3.84) and the 75th percentile (3.98): https://www.admission.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof16_mjr.htm
May I ask why didn’t you list an alternate major? Do you have all pre-reqs completed? Communications, like other impacted majors, is pretty much impossible to predict because you’re up against so many candidates and you can have all the qualities they’re looking for, but there just may not be enough spots. I already have some feels with your essay subject, so hopefully they get those same feels. This is where the holistic review works to your advantage and I think you stand a solid chance, but again with * majors we never know. Good luck!!
Hi everyone! I barely made a CC account this weekend and was wondering if you could also chance me. I know we’re only a few days away :’(
@LynAmmo i’m gonna be honest… i got an A in stats and have zero clue what percentiles mean!! lol. what does that mean? hahah
and i didn’t list an alternate major because i saw no point in going there for anything else. and yes, i have all pre-reqs completed (major GPA is 4.0) except for one pre-req that they dont offer at the two CC’s i go to
@lsierra77 hey! so if the percentile is 3.84-3.98, that means that 25% of admitted applicants had below a 3.84 GPA and 25% of admitted applicants had higher than a 3.98 GPA.
@lsierra77 25 percent of admitted students had less than the 25th percentile, 25 percent of admitted students had greater than 75th percentile.
thanks everyone!
@lsierra77 25% of 3.84 (or lower, to an extent) gpas were admitted for that major, 75% of 3.98 (or more) gpas were admitted for that major.
thanks for chancing me @LynAmmo. it’s definitely nerve-wracking not knowing what could happen especially going in as an impacted major i have hope but im still freaking out
I know that Psychology is considered an impacted major, but is it really competitive to get in? I applied with a 3.94 transferrable GPA (3.86 overall), putting me right in the 75th percentile. Is this major equally as impacted as communications and are admissions really as unpredictable although I’m within the range?
@mangobby Psychology is more impacted than Communications: https://www.admission.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/UCLA_TAG.pdf
Luckily they accept 22% though, Communications is 13%.
@LbcctoUCLA17 I applied to cogsci. Have a 3.89 GPA, missing two pre-reqs for UCLA, and have IGETC completed.
I got into UCSD with around 4-5 prereqs missing, so hoping for the best with UCLA too. I also looked at the 2016 thread and I think I did find two that got in, but try not to worry too much either way… This is a new year and we all have a chance!
@LynAmmo Thanks for the document! I do have all my prereqs done and strong extracurriculars, so hopefully it all works out.
I guess a better question is… what does the entire applicant pool for psych look like? It could very well be that the majority of those who weren’t accepted had gpa’s lower than the 25-75th percentile. On the other hand, ucla could have turned down equally qualified people with gpa’s within that range. Anyone have the gpa stats for all who applied, not just admits?
@mangobby Yeah that definitely helps! Good luck! 2 days, 18 hours, and 42 minutes!!
@mangobby It’s probably a combination of both. Some are denied because their GPAs are low and others because of failure to complete prerequisites, lack of ECs, etc… I’m also a psych major, but I’m trying not to think about all of the possibilities too much or else I’ll stress myself out more than I need to lol. You sound like a very competitive applicant, though.
FYI, to all those ppl admitted to UC Davis - (first, congrats!)
If you guys want to find out your exact UC-transferable GPA, you guys can see it as you login to UCD admissions portal!! It’s on the right hand side somewhere! I was too lazy to calculate every courses so just estimated based off of my CC transcript, but found out it’s a bit lower than the CC transcript… :’( like 0.02 lower?
