FALL 2017 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@ParadoxicalFire They’ve determined that it’s coming Friday because, based on past years, UCLA is always one week before Berkeley and the 2nd to last week of April. My counselor said it would be the 26th, but she has given me false information before (and it doesn’t make sense for it to be that day), so I’m going with the 21st haha 8->

@inerva Hi! I was going over the Admitted GPA statistics of UCLA… and noticed that for ECON, the average GPA, which means the 50% percentile of admitted students had between 3.83-4.0!
So there still is chance for you. Also, you have TAP… so there is a better chance for you than others who don’t have TAP. If you have 3.8 for statistics major, I’m pretty sure you will have 70-80% chance… if you wrote the essay appropriately!! I’ve heard that Economics major is a bit hard to get in but you have a back up… honestly you’ll be fine. You’ll definitely get into UCSD I guess. It’s just LA and Berkeley … no body knows what will happen with those two UCs’

@LynAmmo Hi, I think I’ve seen you in the UCR thread?? right? is everything okay? It seemed that you had some issues with units… and stuff right?

@transfertoUCLA Ayyyy I think you have good chance of getting in if you finished your pre-reqs and have a decent essay. We all gonna make it (ง ͠° ͟ل͜ ͡°)ง.

I always thought dorming is cheaper since it includes meals, gym, gas, parking permit…and if you forget to bring something to class, it wouldnt be as terrible.

@LynAmmo Gotcha! Thank you so much for the explanation!

@TransfertoUCLA Hi! Yeah, I dropped 2 classes and miscounted (with the same counselor who told me UCLA would come out the 26th :-L anyway moving on). By dropping those two classes it put me at 59 units, I didn’t realize till UCSB emailed me and UCSD called me. Once I found that out, on like April 5th, I begged a bunch of teachers to let me join their short term class ONE did (real MVP =D> ). So I alerted UCLA and UCB (as well as the schools that I was already accepted to) that same day and didn’t bother notifying UCR, UCD, etc. UCLA said, “We will keep your previous email in our records as we finalize our reviews and prepare for the transfer decision release later this month.” UCB never sent anything, so idk about that but UCLA is my dream school. Hopefully it works out, I’ve already started jotting down an appeal, but hopefully it won’t come to that [-O<

Does anyone know if it is an actual guarantee that if we are tap certified that we were considered for our alternate major?

Also wondering if being acknowledged as a Regent Scholar at another UC is a strong indication of potentially also being accepted to UCLA?

My current life hack to deal with anxiety: already put the notion in my head that I get rejected so that I can mentally prepare myself if I do get a rejection. I remember applying for UCs as a senior in high school and getting rejected to every single one…man that left me in a fetal position in my bed and questioning my entire academic life. I can’t believe two years later that I’m reliving the whole stress again, but this time having far different outcomes so far. I’m truly blessed this time around and there was surprisingly a silver lining in those rejections. I think I’m over the whole “OMG FREAK OUT” stage…I just need to let the days roll by and trust that whatever happens, happens. Honestly, my poor heart’s been beating too fast lately anyway.

does ucla keep track of people who applied previous years

Can someone chance me?

Major: Global Studies
GPA: 3.02
TAP: No
IGETC: Finished by spring
Prereqs: Finishes
EC: Served 5 years as a Navy Corpsman. In Afghanistan, I built the only sustainable trauma center in Helmand Province despite most of the province falling to the Taliban. As of today, it still provides patient care go wounded ANA soldiers as well as local civilians. I did this with a budget of a million dollars, but completed it in half that and much more effective than prior teams on the project. Also, in 2014 I played a role in the historic retrograde of SFAAT Nolay, an advisor team based out of the infamous Sanghin Valley that has been the battleground for some of the hardest fighting the Marine Corps has seen in OEF. I’ve trained and mentored Afghan medics to become confident in their skills to the point where they could provide medic care for their own independently of American and coalition support. I have experience with diplomacy, and the hardships of bringing two extremely polarizing cultures together for a singular purpose. My essays hit on the errors of nation building and stresses the importance of truly combined political and military solution, as well as the failures that led to these fixes.

After my time in the Navy, I worked for UCLA Health before focusing on my academics. At my CC, I have been a tutor for English, even managed to get a whole class for myself. Since then, I have been involved I several non profits for veterans in Los Angeles.

@LynAmmo Oh…I had a similar problem! Well it’s not about the units but I found out that I wrote down the wrong course name in the application!! I havnt noticed that until UCD contacted me via email. So I emailed every UCs’ (actually I didnt even mention it to UCR but got accepted thats sorta weird and also offered me schlorships)… I didnt hear anything back from UCB either lol. Well, the thing is I got accepted to UCSB and UCR… UIUC and ASU.
Hopefully, rest of the schools also do… You’ll also be fine!! It’ll be cool if I can actually meet you at UCLA in fall :)!!!

@lostar You know what I feel you. This is my second time applying to UCs as a junior. First, I got accepted to UCI so I was getting ready to enroll. I paid for the SIR. The thing is, I failed two of my major courses (which was math at that time) in the spring so I got withdrawn from UCI. I freaked out and so as my parents. OMG… I feel so stressed and miserable when I think of that time. But oh well. I think I have grown that much and learned that IT’S NOT OVER UNTIL THE END… I hope all ppl in the thread get in to school they want.

@TransfertoUCLA I’ve been quite anxious lately cause I got rejected from UCSB and it made me worried that my personal statement was much worse than expected lol

If I’m accepted I want to dorm as well… I want at least a little bit of the traditional “college experience” and I’ve read great things (socially speaking) about the UCLA transfer housing so…fingers crossed :((

@inerva One of my friends she also got rejected from UCSB but got into UCLA and USC. That was like in 2014? I guess. Her major was accounting and had 3.8. Similar to your stat. Admission result is scarier than roller coasters…

@TransfertoUCLA it’s really funny because I went to this college workshop at my high school and there were actual UC reps there talking about applications. There were these real life apps that were passed around and one of them had this girl who had some tribulations she talked about in her personal essay, but there were like major typos in it or something. All of the UCs said they would reject her, but UCLA was the only one who said they’d accept her. They said it so nonchalantly and then like all of us and our parents were like “WHAT?!!? Elaborate please!!” And so UCLA said that while she didn’t have the typical GPA or the typical “perfect” app, her life experience and her unique journey spoke volumes. There’s really no telling what these colleges “want.”

Anyone know if veterans are decided in the same pool of applicants as the civilian population?

@DocAzure Thank you for your service and sacrifice. Please PM MikeSauce and Briank82 who should be able to help. I do recall from 2014, that UCLA likes to admit vets and I met 2 veteran transfers on move in day in my daughter’s dorm. There is also a veterans advisor or office on campus too. Good luck!
