FALL 2017 UCLA OFFICIAL TRANSFER THREAD

@doublek20 were you able to access bruin bill and enroll for class even before admissions

hopefully someone on this thread can do the same thing @doublek20 did to see the differences on there page

@“osazuwa ogbeide” What do you mean by before admissions? I have have access to bruin bill, although there’s nothing really on it except for setting up automatic payments and I seem to have full access to enrolling in summer courses. And this is before any sort of communication with admissions or before an admissions decision if that’s what you meant.

@doublek20 sorry for the loads question that what I meant before admission decision did you ask them for the nine digit number.

@“osazuwa ogbeide” I contacted admissions for something a few months ago (just changing an address) and the ID number and a bunch of other info about me as well (application number, email number, ect.). So I wouldn’t directly ask them for the number but it will come attached to any question you ask them through the decisions portal.

@doublek20 oh cool, another aerospace major! if the applicant pool is anything like last year’s there’s only like 160 more of us.

Would love to discuss housing options with some of you after this weekend (figures crossed). The whole housing info on the website seems a bit confusing. I really do not want to live in the dorms as a transfer and I’m from San Francisco so I don’t really know anyone in the area.

@fcb1010 My top school is definitely UCB but im not getting my hopes up. I know I’m not gonna get in lol. I have a low gpa because you know …life happened … lol, but I applied with gender studies major. So idk my chances tbh. My personal statement is pretty strong but not keeping my hopes up at all !! Let me know where you get accepted !!

@chocstraw Same here! UCLA is my dream school and I didn’t want to be distracted with other applications or to decide not to go there if I got in somewhere else. The art program at UCLA is only second to Yale, so it would be an amazing opportunity to study there… And if I don’t get in, I’ll be starting on another portfolio right away, applying to more schools, and hopefully get accepted to UCLA next year. So the wait is agonizing! I know a lot of people have been confused as to why I decided to apply to only one school, but for me college is not a race, if I need to spend another year at my CC in order to get the best education and connections possible, its far more worth it to me than just going to whatever school accepts me. So good luck to us!

@morocco123 Omg! I’m applying as gender studies too! We are few and far between. Can’t believe I found you :’) lmao. Also, for UCLA, the transfer acceptance rate for gender studies is like 65% so I think if your UC GPA is at least decent, you have a good shot!

@amunroeee I’m sure there will be plenty of craigslist ads for people seeking roommates! UCLA is my top choice and my partner and I are currently living in an apartment in the bay area and we will be moving to LA together if I get in so we have been perusing CL ads for apartments in LA and we have seen 1 bedrooms for as little as $1600 a month.

@stauuz OMG !! Hi fellow major buddy !! Thas super high. Hopefully I get considered. Did you also apply to UCB ?

LA is actually not as bad as some places with housing – cough San Fran *cough-- but it’s not cheap.
You can look at less expensive areas around UCLA and have a mini commute (probably 20 minutes). I already live in Silverlake and I’m too lazy to move so I will have a 40 minute commute most likely.

There are lots of nice apartments in LA, if you don’t wanna do the dorm life

@ericpanda999 for the UCI regents letter, did you ever receive an email beforehand from UCI or did it just come in the mail? i haven’t gotten an email from any school yet about anything T__T

and for those of you who want to join sororities: do you have to wear dresses all the time? my friend joined a sorority and she used to wear jeans and t shirts all the time but when she joined she always wore dresses and skirts in the pictures she had w/ her sorority girls. is it like a dress code rule that you have to wear that? and everyone else in the picture always wore dresses/skirts too

wow and a college confidential meetup would be awesome!!

There have been several people saying they can apply again next fall if they don’t get admitted. I didn’t even know that was an option :o I always just thought that you were either gonna apply after 2 years from CC (if you get all your pre reqs done) or in 3 or however many years it takes for you to finish those pre reqs (mostly seen w/ STEM majors). @chocstraw and @misskelseyk : it’s really interesting to hear that perspective! I especially like your comment @misskelseyk about college not being a race; I feel like for me, everyone is saying the opposite. Everyone just assumes that people “should” graduate in time and the whole reason for applying to many schools is that it gives you options. But good for you to feel that much passion and dedication for UCLA!! Hopefully they’ll see that in you and you don’t have to worry about re-applying

@LynAmmo I feel like if I posted my stats it would make me more paranoid. Plus, there’s nothing I could do even if I wanted to change my app; what’s done is done. Also, as ironic as this may seem, I feel like posting my stats would just make me look lackluster compared to all you guys…honestly though, you’re all a great bunch. :-S

my dad was telling me back when he went to UCLA, all you needed was the application fee and the GPA and you were in! that was also in the 70’s so times were definitely different haha imagine if the process was like that now? but he did tell me the grading curve and pressure was still tough then which gives me a little anxiety

I doubt it’s like a rule that you have to wear them ALL the time but maybe just for formal events and meetings? That s a really good question though. I never thought about if sororities have dress codes or not!

lol we don’t have dress codes. i wear my lululemons and sorority shirt to class like everyday and rarely any make up. but there are certain events where we need wear certain things like a dress or business casual. weekly meetings you usually need to wear your pin, dress, heels, or business attire. but during recruitment and promo week, we need to wear matching shirts and look presentable the first week so we can present ourselves in the best way! @otoribashi i’m in a srat so i know all of the rules and stuff lol

@stauuz oh wow, I must be looking in the wrong place on craigslist, most of what I see are bedrooms that are shared between 2-3 people (also not ideal).

I’m thinking university owned off campus apartments might be a good idea, just so I can meet people. But I’m open to anything as long as I don’t have to share a room. And @FaithGraceUC you’re so right, SF is brutal. Thanks for the advice!
