FALL 2018 UCI Irvine Official Transfer Thread

@collegekid1223 Look, if you have the time and you feel like the school needs to hear (valuable) information that you think is significant enough for them to know whilst making their decision. Then go ahead, it wont hurt.

You appeal a decision because you believe that admissions has wrongly wait listed or rejected you. If you appeal and are denied, you are still on the wait list. Anyone wait listed or rejected can appeal. You could tell them you are retaking math 2 but can’t they already see that on your application?

I feel like being on the wait list as a computer science applicant shows you have good stats. If you have the time to write an appeal it def won’t hurt your chances if that is what you’re asking. If you sound whiny or have nothing significant or valuable to tell them then you are wasting your time.

Can someone tell me what happened with the TAG CS majors? So even those who satisfied all the TAG requirements were waitlisted? How is that possible, when TAG is a guarantee?

@deezydee because TAG isn’t truly guaranteed LUL , one of my colleagues also got waitlisted as tag too

@YourSenpai TAG is GUARANTEED. why would they call Transfer Admissions Guaranteed if it isn’t? The reason why some people get rejected even though they TAG is because of discrepancies found on their application. It could be they didn’t make the cut for the unit count, GPA wasn’t high enough, didn’t enter the courses right, etc. There are various reasons and scenarios as to why a TAG would be rejected but it is still a guarantee.

my issue with tag turned out to be that my counselor had misinterpreted the assist req for public health and i was missing a calc course that the calc I had already taken didn’t cover /: he told me it should be fine and it wasn’t lol which is why you should communicate with admissions counselors to double check everything!!

i’d be heartbroken if ucsd didn’t accept me honestly, i wasn’t expecting it at all and was deadset on irvine with tag.

Did anyone get their financial award yet?

I think some people are assuming that because they have (or feel they have) taken all the courses needed to transfer and have a decent GPA, that applying for a TAG is guaranteed. You may want to reread the info (and any FAQs you can find about submitting a TAG application). It’s not that you’re guaranteed your TAG application will be approved. It’s that if you do get your TAG app approved, you are being told that if you fulfill the conditions listed in your portal, you will be admitted to the university.

It doesn’t make sense if there’s x number of spaces for transfer students and y (more than x) apply for a TAG, that y (assuming they took all the courses listed on the website) students will get their TAG approved.

The counselor assigned to computer sci at my CC must have previously helped liberal arts majors as she insisted that the IGETC be completed, which goes against what many of the UC physical science depts. advise for transfer applicants. Unfortunately if you’re stuck with a counselor who is not giving you the right info, you need to do something like print out the info from the website and show him or her.

Chances of getting in as social ecology? Waitlisted for it and have a 3.4 GPA

@KnightKing not yet! I have this message though: “Your financial aid award is currently being reviewed. Your updated award should be available within the next fifteen days. If it has been more than fifteen days, please contact our office…”

A few days ago it said my file was complete and my award would be posted shortly, but I had to make a housing plan change, so I think that’s why my message changed. Does yours say anything similar?

@yourfrienddavid my message also changed as of this morning, but I didn’t have to make any housing plan changes. My guess is that it changed to that for everyone.

@emjbussard ahh okay, that sounds plausible!

@yourfrienddavid yea mine just changed it to that new statement this morning. I’m waiting for the financial aid package before I decide where to go. I have already heard back from other uc, but for UCI still haven’t send it out :frowning: Did anyone fill out the housing yet? Does it take a long time to do it?

@KnightKing yeah, every other UC has sent unofficial award letters for me too. I’m surprised UCI takes a bit longer, but at least we’re on the same page. I thought it was just mine that changed. Phew. & housing is still unavailable for me to submit an application.

@yourfrienddavid @KnightKing you won’t be allowed to fill out a housing app unless you’ve already SIR’d

@emjbussard I understand that. Thanks for reminding me. I wish that they will send out award letter soon.

@KnightKing Me too. I checked on last year’s transfer thread and it seemed like financial aid was released on May 10, so I was really hoping it would be released today, but it doesn’t seem like that’s gonna happen :frowning:

My financial aid is out! Middle-class scholarship, Federal Pell Grant, Chancellors Excellence Scholarship and UCI Grant (:

received federal pell grant, uci grant, and SEOG grant! It says that I may be eligible for the blue and gold opportunity plan. Do I have to apply for it or how can I get it?

me too im eligible for blue and gold too, i got offered 24k in grants and 9k in loans. im wondering if the 24k in uci grants included blue and gold already since i didn’t apply for cal grant yet. hmm. or if that’s separate.
