D28 has W&M on her radar. For a fall of 11th visit, is Fall Focus or a regular tour and Griffin Shadow the better option? Or is it worth doing both?
If you can easily make both, there are benefits to either - with tours, eat in the dining hall, stop kids or adults on campus and chat. Walk the surrounds. There’s a cute little tourist area right off campus. The area on the other side is more typical city. If it’s 11th grade and you might go back in 12th, it’ll be great and next year you can ask to meet a prof or club group head. Or you can even this year.
When schools have a Focus type day or half, we did some too. These are admission events, not admitted student. If you’re going to see a lot of schools, visits often blend (especially info sessions) and the depth might make further school visits undesirable…the kids grow tired of them. In my opinion, in 11th grade, unless it’s far and it’s going to be your only chance to visit, shorter is better.
Many of the admit days or focus days are on weekends, are Oscar worthy sales performances, and you can’t get a sense of school in session - the people traffic flow.
The important thing is to get to campus though - whatever way is best for you.
good luck.
With Fall Focus, you will also get a tour. Fall Focus will give you a more in-depth overview of WM. If you have the time, you can add in a Griffin Shadow.
