Fall Vs Spring Dilemma

Hello everybody. Im looking at going to the university of Wisconsin-Madison (from AUSTRALIA) in the fall of this year but won’t be 21 :frowning: or the other option is to go in the spring next year and i will be 21  just wanted to know what term would be better? like if there is more stuff going on in the fall compared to the spring, more life on campus, more parties in the fall i don’t know…

Any advice would be good! Cheers

And I would only be going for 4 months so I need to pick one.

Half of your classmates won’t be 21 yet and there’ll be plenty of opportunities to drink. That being said, if going to bars is a top concern, wait till the spring.

The fall semester would probably give you a more pleasant experience. College campuses essentially re-invent themselves every fall. There’ll be tryouts to decide who plays on which sport team. People volunteer for leadership positions in student activities. With an influx of new faces, many students will be looking to create or expand their core group of friends. And you’ll have more course options because many courses are taught as year-long sequences starting in the fall.

The spring semester brings stress for most students. Students have to find jobs. Seniors will be panicking about their theses. Many students who partied a bit too hard in the fall will be on academic probation or under parental pressure to improve their grades. And then there’s flu season. With shared dorm rooms and large communal bathrooms, you’re almost guaranteed to get sick in the spring semester. And if you’re lucky enough to not get sick yourself, you’ll get to enjoy an orchestra of coughing and sneezing during class.

If you couldn’t guess, I’d go in the fall

Thanks mate! great response! I will already have a degree so I want to go have fun, learn a bit as well lol. I’m a pretty active person so I want to go when every things happening e.g. parties, sports, fun.

If you want to spend the first two months buried in snow, go in the spring. If you want to spend more time in a snow-free environment, go in the fall. Summer would be best if you really want to get outdoors and do things. Madison is gorgeous in the summer.

I like the snow so all g. Just want to have a great time

How much do you like snow? Wisconsin practically invented winter. Spend some time at http://www.weather.com/ to get a notion what it can be like there.

I would suggest spring. I remember some friends of mine studying abroad who wanted to return to UW for spring semester, because they felt it was so beautiful and exciting when spring / sun / etc. came on campus.

I’d say Alaska invented winter, but you won’t lack for snow and cold in the midwestern winter. It should provide a nice change from your hemisphere. Plus, the toilets will flush in the opposite direction.

The cold is no problem Love it… (Skiing) My main concern is going when I am 20 (fall) or when in the spring as I turn 21 over there. But feel if I go in the Fall i will miss out going out or if i go in the Spring i will miss out on all the events that happen in the Fall.

There is no good skiing anywhere near Wisconsin.

There is skiing in Wisconsin, but whether or not you’d think it’s “real” skiing is another story: https://www.google.com/maps/search/ski+wisconsin/@44.7862968,-89.8267049,7z/data=!3m1!4b1

I think you are worried too much about having fun. If you can’t figure out to have fun without a drink in your hand, then it is time you learned how to do just that.
