Casual dining[edit]

Also noticing that some restaurants are on both lists! Huh!

Yup-- lots of duplication!

Have been staying away from fast food restaurants like the plague lately. But I did have a “protein style” cheeseburger at In and Out yesterday. Protein style means no bun, and wrapped in layers of lettuce. I omitted the pink sauce in favor of light mustard.

Without the bun, pretty messy endeavor. It was ok.

I’m in the minority as I love Panera. I am self employed and I often work there while I’m out. Good coffee bar, good wifi. I love their lemon orzo soup and several of their salads. The one near me is always quick and the workers are very friendly.

And although I consider it more a convenience store, WAWA is the bomb!!!

Wayyy upstate NY here. We don’t have most of the restaurants on this list. Chik-Fil-A, Bojangles, Hardees, and Krispy Kreme are all big road trip stops for us. We recently got a Sonic about an hour away and even a Starbucks visit means over an hour trip to get to a real one. Probably why I covet Starbucks so much, because all we have ever had around here is Dunkin Donuts.

We have Arby’s and they used to be good and I will still occasionally pop in for a to go order for DS and DH. However, like most fast food establishments (KFC being another occasional stop) it varies from place to place. I used to love Wendy’s salads with grilled chicken until I started always getting brown lettuce at the local ones. DS10 likes an occasional trip to Taco Bell (and that is it for Tex Mex fast food around here). We do go to Subway a lot since it is one of only 3 take out restaurants in our small town (Burger King and a pizza place being the others) but I also have a fair amount of really great sub shops I can pick up from on my way home from work. Don’t even get me started on Burger King (won’t eat there at all anymore and DS10 is only allowed about 3 times a year). I guess I should thank my lucky stars that we DON’T have the options available to us. I would probably be a lot lazier about cooking and we would all be a lot less healthy.

We did just recently get a Chipotle nearby but DH doesn’t eat that sort of food and DS prefers Moe’s as Chipotle does not have ground beef (oh the horror).

I agree with the above poster that Wawa (and Sheetz) are the bomb! We don’t have those around here either but again, we stop when on road trips (we have two DD’s who live out of state).

WAWA is the bomb!!!

Had to look that up. for some reason, I thought it was a grocery store.

WaWa is a convenience store but it is the best of all convenience stores/gas stations. It has freshly prepared hoagies, other sandwiches, breakfasts etc as well as good pre-packaged foods such as hard-boiled eggs, cheese and veggie snacks etc. Great drink and coffee selection as well.

^ I poor eye and mind thought it was WAMU, defunct Washington Mutual.

Wawa makes it possible to eat healthy on the road. And the coffee bar is excellent. Plus the cheapest gas. Win win win

I am in wawa at least every day it seems :">

Wow…I’m going to need to find one when on the east coast.

You can find here. Only 6 states: DE, FL, MD, NJ, PA, and VA.

I’m thinking WAWA is similar to Sheetz which we have some of in Ohio (but not in my area) - it was the “to go” place for just about everything when my S was a freshman - he could literally run across the street to Sheetz . They had a great ordering system, were quick and I always enjoyed a delicious hot flavored coffee or steamer in the early days when I would drive him back after trips home.

It is like Sheetz.

I forgot about Au Bon Pain. Now that is really good. But again, don’t think of it as “fast food.”

I like Au Bon Pain too.

Problem with Au Bon Pain is that their soups are like a cup of salt! I like Jules Thin Crust Pizza.

I don’t the soup, I eat the sandwiches and the pastries. Soup made in America in general are very salty, I wonder if they are from cans.

Of course nothing can beat White Castle if you can find one.

I went to Chicken Salad Chick today. It was OK.
