I enjoyed the favorite Christmas movie and favorite board games threads so much, I thought I’d start one about favorite Christmas CD’s. In past years, I’ve always treated myself to one or two new Christmas CD’s - my present to myself. To be honest, this year I can’t find any I want! I’ll start with a couple of our favorites:

Vince Guaraldi - A Charlie Brown Christmas
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy - Everything You Want for Christmas
BB King - A Christmas Celebration of Hope
The Jethro Tull Christmas Album (not what you’d expect and fabulous!)
The Irish Rovers - Songs of Christmas
Carly Simon - Christmas is Almost Here
JS Bach Christmas Music
An NPR Jazz Christmas

Celtic Thunder Christmas
Either of Straight No Chaser’s Christmas albums
Taylor Swift’s Christmas Album
Glee Christmas Album
BarlowGirl-Home for Christmas

These are in no particular order. BarlowGirl is probably my very favorite.

Bryan Setzer Orchestra’s “Dig That Crazy Christmas”
Frank Sinatra’s “The Christmas Collection”
Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Album”
“Now That’s What I Call Christmas” Various Artists

When I was a kid my recollections of Ella were that old lady with the thick glasses on the Bob Hope Christmas specials, but in her prime—what a voice! This CD was recorded in 1959 and 1960. Love the combination of Ella Fitzgerald backed by a big band.

Seconding Harry Connick’s ‘When My Heart Finds Christmas’ and of course the Vince Guaraldi Trio’s ‘A Charlie Brown CHristmas’
Brian Setzer’s ‘Christmas Rocks’
‘Croon and Swoon - A Classic Christmas’ - great sampling of classics, one of my favorites
‘O’ Come All Ye Faithful’ The Choir of Kings College
‘Joy to the World’ Eugene Ormandy
Any Christmas stuff by Perry Como, Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby and Andy Williams

Songs of Joy & Peace, by Yo-Yo Ma and Friends. Friends include Alison Krauss, James Taylor, Dave Brubeck and Natalie MacMaster. I saw Natalie M. last night; she is a fiddler from Cape Breton. Lots of energy, great band, fabulous concert.

All time favorite: Straight No Chaser — they have an offer with both Christmas CD’s on their website right now.

Kid’s favorite a couple years ago: Have a Rosie Christmas. (seems odd, with Rosie O’donnell singing with other artists, but it’s good).

I like the Peter, Paul and Mary Holiday Concert, but my kids don’t.

Other favorites (plus some of the ones listed above): lots of Windom Hill, lots of jazz albums, the James Taylor album, Kristen Chenowyth-A Lovely Way to Spend Christmas, Barenaked for the Holidays, and Ottmar Lierbert- Christmas Santa Fe.

I listen to Accuradio Holiday online channels, and if I hear something new and interesting I put it on my shopping list.
