Amazon sells it, too!
Has anybody mentioned kombucha yet? Relatively low calorie.
I made cherry shrub awhile ago, and it’s pretty phenomenal (imho). Cover any kind of soft fruit with half vinegar half sugar (so, eg a cup of sugar and a cup of vinegar. Let it sit in the refrigerator for a few weeks. Remove the fruit. Done!
It only takes a couple of teaspoons, maybe a tablespoon to flavor a tall glass of sparkling water. Very refreshing.
Awesome! What ratio of fruit to vinegar/sugar mix do you use? Just to cover the fruit or is there a specific ratio? Thanks!
Just cover the fruit.
Here’s a recipe. I didn’t add any spices, just 3 ingredients, cherries, sugar, vinegar. Other fruit, like raspberries or strawberries would slso work really well, I think.
For the greater Seattle area dwellers, Metropolitan Market chain of chichi grocery stores sells Tost. In the cocktail mixer isle. Got a bottle to try.
Thank you! Have some less than perfect cherries, so perfect timing.
Got the lemon and strawberry TJ drink to try. Definitely a 200-calorie taste in a 35-calorie can!! Very good and refreshing. Thanks for the recommendation!
Funny, I’m drinking one right now!
Cheers! Skål!
I even diluted mine with some S. Pellegrino. Still tastes great!
I guess I’m a strange one. I don’t like any kind of carbonated drinks (except good champagne!). I don’t drink water with gas either. I have never been a soda drinker and just drink a lot (75 or more ounces a day) of regular water. I sometimes will add fruit to my water, but that’s it.
I’m the same way about water. I like the idea of flavored or sparkling water, but after a sip, I realize that I just want plain still iced water. I think my brain equates plain water with a beverage while anything with “taste” should produce some kind of food payoff. My calorie obsessed brain also rationalizes that I want to eat my calories rather than drink them.
I do, however, like carbonation for the “right” beverages. Once a year or so I give into a craving frorom real Coke or Mug Root Beer.
I rarely drink sparkling water at home but I ordered it almost every meal in Europe.
OK, on the way home from a place I stopped at TJ’s just to get that drink! I got two cans. Chilling for later.
Mostly we drink water. For a treat, we will drink chilled coconut water or ginger beer.
(Homer Simpson voice: ON) Mmmmmmmm ginger beer…
I’m trying to wean myself from Diet Coke by substituting sparkling water. I like the flavor of Topo Chico. I drink iced tea in the summer, hot tea in the winter. Sometimes I buy Arizona Tea Lite (Arnold Palmer). Plain tap water is fine with me.
If I’m looking for something special when out with friends, etc…, I like a nonalcoholic drink to have some pizzazz. A bit of fizziness, a bit of citrus, a bit of something sharp, maybe some bitters. I want to feel like I’m drinking something as tasty as a cocktail. I like Edna’s brand if I’m at home.
Oof, that TJ drink didn’t set well with my stomach.
Ah, that’s a bummer. It’s just organic fruit juice and sparking water in a low calorie package, maybe your stomach doesn’t like fruit juice?
That TOST is really good! I went to four stores that I normally shop at to find it, no luck so I went to the Metropolitan Market. It was very inexpensive, which is surprising for anything from the Metropolitan Market. I like it better than the Trader Joe’s drink, because it’s not as fruity, and I can actually pretend that it’s a glass of wine.
