Favorite teas?

Good Earth prefer with caffeine. teavana Youth berry also teavana gingerbread. Earl gray
And it really makes a difference when we use the cast iron tea pot

Mighty Tea Leaf. It is my favorite brand. I like all of their tea. It comes in a silk pouch and smells great.

“Ooh, I’m not a fan of caffeinated tea.”

Where do you get your green decaf? I have yet to find a good decaf green tea.

H has been getting his tea from Tea Forte. They are loose leaf teas and he puts them in a bag to steep. The only one he didn’t like was the black cherry tea- said it tasted/smelled like a cigar. I called the company and they sent me a different flavor- I think it was coconut chai:

@BunsenBurner My green tea (and white) is Salada Decaffeinated. I’m afraid I don’t have anything to compare it to, though, so I’m a poor judge of qualitea.

“Does matcha work well by itself?”

It’s supposed to be by itself. The Japanese traditionally never put anything in it.

Tazo does make good chai. So do Twinings and Stash.

Check out Steven Smith Teamaker teas, the cofounder of Stash and Tazo (he unfortunately passed away last year.), but his tea company is still in business.

I find Yogi Ginger Tea tackles my reflux , so I drink it every night.

Thanks, @awesomepolyglot ! I have friends who like TJ’s decaf green tea, so I stock that, but I am always on the lookout for alternatives.

I just thought I’d mention this tea strainer, which I have used multiple times each day since I bought it: http://www.amazon.com/FORLIFE-Extra-fine-Infuser-Porcelain-Dish/dp/B001JP1KPO/ref=sr_1_3?s=kitchen&ie=UTF8&qid=1460145607&sr=1-3&keywords=forlife+tea

So much easier than a tea ball or one of those bags that you have to fill!

How I love this thread!

My picks for a morning boost:
PG Tips/ English and Irish Breakfast (Trader Joe’s is decent)

For dim sum:
Pu-erh (Victoria Beckham swears by it)
Oolong and jasmine (surely drinking tea cancels out the calories from pork dumplings and riblets!)
Numi’s smoky tarry lapsang souchong is life changing.

As a gift:
Numi flowering teas and glass pots

Afternoon pick me up:
Yerba mate (sans the gourd and straw - mine always go moldy)
Chai with sugar and milk

Non-caffeinated, which I drink cold - pop a couple of bags into a water jug and voila - a fancy drink with dinner:
Rooibos/honeybush
Taza Passion (turns into a glorious purple)

I am fortunate to live near Middle Eastern and Asian markets, which are great source for loose tea and bricks of tea.

Sorry, but green and white teas don’t do very much for me.
Be careful when buying matcha. It’s best to go organic.

I’m the kind of dope that never remembers movie lines or scenes, but the gorgeous Shohreh Aghdashloo serving tea in House of Sand and Fog is permanently etched in memory. So graceful, so mesmerizing.

I have a pretty serious tea habit-I don’t drink coffee or soda, but there’s an entire shelf in my pantry dedicated to the teas I like.

My current favorite is Bigelow’s American Tea-it has more caffeine than normal black tea. It’s my “now I’m awake!” tea first thing in the morning.

I also love lapsang souchong tea. It’s an acquired taste. The first time I made it when I was at work the boss came running in saying “what’s on fire!” It has a very distinct smoky smell to it. If you’ve ever ridden Spaceship Earth in EPCOT (the big ball) and go by the part where Rome is burning, that’s what it smells like. I know this sounds terrible, but it actually tastes really good.

Um, Assam tea, oolong, darjeeling tea, jasmine green in the little balls that unfurl (I have a fancy schmancy infuser for that tea), Earl Grey of course. Lady Grey. Constant Comment. Tension Tamer Tea, linden tea when I can’t fall asleep (rarely).

Red Rose tea is the tea of my childhood and is still my go-to cheap but good tea.

I can’t drink chai because it upsets my stomach, and mate gives me a bad headache every time.

I picked up numi mint tea today. It was really good. I guess it’s not really tea since its caffeine free.

I like nearly all teas, but my favorites are Earl Grey, lapsang souchong, and a particular kind of oolong from a shop in San Francisco. For the not-technically-tea-but-who-cares category, I also love licorice tea, and rooibos. I drank rooibos tea every morning when I was living in South Africa, and I kept up the habit to some degree when I left. I have a loose leaf tea from a shop in Boulder that is an Earl Grey-Rooibos blend, and it’s really good. I also have a rose blossom ‘tea’ (it’s really just a jar of little blossoms) that I got as a Valentine’s Day gift from BF a couple of years ago–they make a really good tea, and it was the perfect gift!

I usually drink loose leaf tea at home, but I like Mighty Leaf and Tea Pigs a lot, especially Mighty Leaf’s version of rooibos (‘African Nectar’) and Tea Pigs licorice, mentioned above. Sometimes good ol’ Celestial Seasonings, too.

Speaking of which, has anyone else done the Celestial Seasonings factory tour in Boulder? If you have the chance, I highly recommend it. The tours are free and offered daily, and it was really, really fun. You get to go out into the big room where they store all of the herbs that they add, and it smells heavenly. And then to the tea room, and then to the peppermint room, which is pretty intense. They sell shirts that say “I survived the peppermint room” in the store.

Do any of you do a formal tea? What to you serve with it? Sandwiches, scones, biscotti. On Sundays my mom used to have tea time with sweet and savory snacks.

^^We are not a formal family-the only thing we use the dining room table for is projects (robots, sewing, currently I have a giant powerpoint presentation I’m working on that has caused me to scatter papers all over it). Our kitchen table is where we eat, and tea is typically a first thing in the morning drink-by 3 pm I’m not drinking anything with caffeine in it.

Walt Disney World has a formal tea at the Grand Floridian, though, with little cucumber sandwiches and tea served in very fancy pots and teacups :).

@MotherOfDragons , was your kitchen windowsill populated with the tiny ceramic animals from the Red Rose Tea boxes like ours was?

Mistake post

@dragonmom we put ours in the fishtank :D.

All you tea drinkers…do you also like Iced Tea (esp in the summertime)? If so - what tea do you like to use for that?

I like iced tea year-round. My favorite is jasmine green tea.
