My favorite boards are closing at the end of May. I spend almost as much time there as here. The forums have really enhanced my enjoyment and appreciation of the shows I watch. Without violating the CC terms of service (which I can’t seem to track down on this new format), can anyone recommend good TV discussion forums? (Only a few of my shows are regularly discussed here.) I wouldn’t know what to do with all the free time I’d have :).

Please tell me you don’t mean Television without Pity! I haven’t visited for a while but I love those boards.

Yes, TWOP and one other one.

Years ago I used to visit TWOP to catch Amazing Race chatter and maybe a little American Idol chatter (a LITTLE too intense!!) Haven’t been there in forever.

People are saying that message boards are fading away due to things like Facebook pages, blogs etc.

You can always start a TV Series thread here on CC!!! But clearly, we don’t have the traffic/audience those places have.

Also, you can start a NEW hobby with all your new found time!

<a href=“Television Without Pity Shut Down (Without Pity) By NBC | Observer”>http://observer.com/2014/03/the-end-of-television-without-pity/

Also a site called Daily Candy???

Yes, TWOP, sob. Recaps are very amusing, forums give tons of background and analysis, not to mention identifying IKTG’s (I know that guy) when a familiar face appears in a bit part. From what I read, it’s closing because it can’t be “monetized”. The forums I read are very active; lots of people still prefer message boards to Facebook/Twitter etc. As I’m sure we all appreciate!

There used to be one called FORT that discussed all types of tv shows.

Dang. I liked their weecaps.

City-Data has a ton of threads on various TV shows under their General Forums > Entertainment & Arts

I’m stunned. I don’t know why they say it can’t be monetized when they never even tried. The site has a huge following and my guess is that a good chunk of the readers/posters are upper middle class. Surely some advertisers would leap at that demographic.

Hitfix has a TV section and Alan Sepinwall’s reviews elicit the same kind of intelligent and often snarky comments found on TWOP. But it’s not the place to go to argue over an answer on Jeopardy, cheer for one’s favorite Amazing Race team, or speculate about plot developments on Nashville. There really is no substitute for TWOP.

Over on TWOP, a lot of people are discussing previously.tv as an alternate. If it attracts a lot of TWOP crossovers, it might grow into a good place. Looks like nice reviews at least.

So I just texted D2 whose life almost revolves around TWoP after reading this (she has also referred me to TWoP). She said it’s closing down in a like a week. She’s very upset. She doesn’t know what she’s going to do yet.

Wow I had no idea it was still so active. I just assumed it had died off!!!

Surely someone will capitalize on this and start a new venue??

They’re going to “cease operations” as of April 4, but the forums will remain open until May 31. They have a thread (currently up to 26 pages) about the closing. It’s fun how many people started going there because of Buffy!

I think many of the TWOPers are going over to previously.tv

I am seriously going to miss the daily snark!

I wonder why TWOP is closing?

I used to check in with TWoP often when I was a faithful viewer of Project Runway and Top Chef- loved the discussions and recaps and spoilers! Been busier the last few years and don’t watch as much TV, sad to hear the site is closing down. I will check out some of the suggested alternatives.

D2 says a bunch of the original TWoP staffers now write at previously.tv.

TWOP has/had the most respectful, high-level discussion I’ve ever seen on any forum. Although I think the rule that disallowed discussion of why you had a certain opinion sucked some of the life out of the forums after the buyout, it was still frequently fascinating–and often hilarious. Among other things, I learned about cooking, TV ratings, theology, and literature from TWOP, It will be missed,

Have you regular TWOP folks found a new spot that people are hanging out??

A large number of TWOP-ers (at least with the shows I follow) are moving over to previously.tv. Some are double posting in both forums, and some will wait until TWOP ends and then move over. It’s a very new forum so not a lot of posts but is building up fast due to the TWOP closure. I don’t think “outsiders” know much about it, and it looks like they mean to enforce decorum like TWOP did, so hopefully will be a good replacement.
