Hi all, I am a freshman and at the moment I do not have any extracurriculars. FBLA is my only real shot at getting an EC this year since I am friends with some of the upperclassman that are in our FBLA chapter. However, I’m not sure if I am even eligible to join or if I’d enjoy it since all of the descriptions of what FBLA members even do haven’t really been all that useful.
What does this mean? Are you in the US? If so, you can do all kinds of extracurriculars whenever you want. You can join a club at school, or you can look for a part time job (baby sitting, dog walking, flipping burgers), you can volunteer through your church or a local nonprofit, heck there’s an election coming up, you can volunteer to canvas or phone bank for a candidate or issue you care about. Think about what you truly enjoy doing and do it. You can make an EC out of almost anything. The important thing is to enjoy it so that you are genuinely engaged with it - those are the best ECs.
Agree with this!
If you knit- offer to start a knitting club at a local nursing home (I’ll bet the residents can teach you some fancy stiches!) You bring donated yarns-- gives the residents a chance to socialize outside of meals or outings.
Like to sing? Start a choral group at the local Boys Club/Girls club.
Stock shelves at the food pantry/donation site, start a playgroup for families with Special Needs kids who then get a break for a few hours on the weekend while you and a couple of friends do an activity with the children; use your imagination.
The world isn’t running out of EC’s any time soon!!!
