Ugh. I’m glad I’m missing this latest round but it figures my flight home on Wednesday isn’t in jeopardy for being cancelled. I could have used a few extra days in Florida.
Local news in Boston is reporting the possibility of another significant snowstorm on Thursday and more possible snow Sunday.
It…will…never…end.
At this point they’re worrying about roof collapses. I predict that the big issue a few weeks from now will be horrendous ice dams.
D2 couldn’t get the T in, today. Went home. D1 tried to drive (not Boston) and came home. I noticed this am that, on the online traffic maps, the highways here were all green during rush hour (no congestion.) Of course not. No one is on them.
To me, funniest thing is how people react to snow, as if this weren’t New England.
My street doesn’t get plowed much, maybe once in the am, once later at night. I got stuck twice in th past few days, just trying to get out of my drive. Got helped by my nice new neighbor who grew up on the Canadian border.
Yes, it’s New England. We used the roof rake on our roof yesterday before all of the current snow began. Our roof is on,y two years old, and we have 12 feet of that rubber ice dam parent ion stuff under our shingles…but no sense taking chances.
I’m a bit worried about our deck. It has about three feet of packed snow on it. While I would like a new deck, I don’t think I want it as an insurance claim!
Yes, possible snow again Thursday. Oh well.
This year I’ve been snow blowing the deck once I chip away at the ice blocking the back door. My electric heater keeps shutting off so today’s an ice chipping day. Ain’t no rest for the weary.
Our mailbox is hard to get to. It’s dropping down to -10 below this weekend. All that is good for is it’s normally too cold to snow.
The MBTA had a red line train get stuck in between two stations today with passengers on it for over two hours - for the second time in a week. It’s suspending service at 7. I feel like offices closing right now in Boston is less about the weather and more about the MBTA’s inability to recover from the weather.
It’s been snowing here - in west central NH - since Saturday afternoon. And we don’t have nearly the snow Boston has. Where in the heck will they put all the snow?
We just finished clearing out drive. I would guess we got about 10 new inches. It just stopped about 4. Possibility for an inch overnight. It is very slick. Seems like there is a layer of ice under the snow on our whole drive. Not good.
I just hope the forecast for more snow Thursday is wrong.
And I do feel for you Boston folks!
We are getting ice in the NYC area. Hard to say which I ‘prefer’. Frankly neither. I have already informed H that I will be spending next Jan 15-Mar 1 south. I will pack up my car and find a cheap condo somewhere near a beach and just relax. It doesn’t need to be 80. I will take 60. The key is no snow.
My current FB profile pic is a cartoon a cousin in New England posted and I stole:
‘Do you want to build a snowman?
No, I don’t want to build a fing snowman.
I want to build a sandcastle, on a beach, in the sun, where there’s no fing snow’
Record snow, record number of snow days and cancellations, arctic winds, icicles that look like swords hanging from my gutters, snow banks so high I can’t see over them to get my car out onto the street, utility bills from h%ll. What’s not to love about Boston?
Maybe DH will get some jobs inspecting roof problems! Not exciting, but they pay the bills.
Two days from now, we will be sitting in Fort Lauderdale, getting ready to board our cruise ship the next day. It seems kind of surreal!
You know you’ve gotten a ridiculous amount of snow when your middle schooler says, “I don’t want another day off!”
The MBTA just announced no trains at all will be running in Boston tomorrow (some buses).
Plus they’re shutting down service after 7pm tonight, so a lot of people are going to be stranded.
Yeah, I think they shut inbound commuter rail down already with no warning and said they’d shut outbound down at 7.
In fairness, any local businesses that I follow on facebook all said they’d be shutting down right away (around 5) as soon as the T announced that they were closing at 7. It will take the employees that long to get home too!
I was thinking more of emergency personnel like doctors, nurses, police and firefighters who aren’t going to be able to come off shifts that normally end in the evening. The roads are such a mess that there aren’t a whole lot of taxis or Ubers available.
Yeah, absolutely. And I think people didn’t necessarily plan for this, since the weather is getting better.
I want to dip my toes in the water. Guess I could do that here. But it wouldn’t be the same.
I just realized we need indoor resorts here. Imagine that, under a big dome, sand, palms, some island music, warm breeze, a little casita.
Where I am on the south shore of MA we are creeping up on 7 feet of snow over the last two weeks. The piles on the sides of my walkway are up to my neck. Tomorrow will be the sixth snow day this year and I haven’t seen my Monday classes in three weeks. This is insane. Roofs and decks are collapsing and the MBTA has cancelled service for tomorrow and tonight.
@lookingforward, About the closest we have to that is Great Wolf Lodge. How about you and I open an adult version? Lets throw some Margaritas into your plan.
