“We prepaid our heating oil at $3.49 a gallon. No one has offered to give us a rebate.”
I don’t know what my company does if you pre-pay. I’m on an 11 month budget plan. This year I was capped at $3.84 iirc, but when the price goes down, i pay the lower price. This is the first time I’ve ever had budget price reduced during the season. It’s gone down $70 a month. My monthly price also includes my service plan which cost $35/month.
Last year I was able to stop paying after 8 months because I had a big enough credit left over. They roll it over to reduce the next years monthly amount.
We replaced the whole furnace system around 10 years ago and it’s super efficient. We also put in a separate zone for the basement, so I’m not wasting oil heating rooms we are hardly ever in anymore. S turned it on when he was home on break, but it’s been off since he left a month ago.
A capped fuel oil price is better than a lock-in price. My oil company bases the budget plan on the last two seasons to average it out. But last year’s double whammy of high oil prices and cold temperatures pushed my budget up $40 per month.
Our average ppg this winter is $3.15 compared to last year’s $3.91. This week’s oil delivery was at $2.81 per gallon. Hopefully I’ll see a drop in the budget in the spring.
We set the temp to 68 degrees during the day and 63 degrees at night. We have an electric heater for the bedroom that we turn off at 10 PM. Our electric bill has gone down $100 per month mainly because we limit using the heater.
