I guess he’s saying it’s OK to cheat as long as you don’t get caught.
stupid question - how you guys get the original post in a grey box?
“Lots of kids at our high school WANT to go to CSUF.”
@VickiSoCal …Is a solid school and very affordable. On the cusp of the Top 5 CSU’s (with many impacted programs ) out of all 23 in California.

@websensation Agreed. That’s why I’m against standardized tests being the final arbiter when it comes to college admissions. My son kicked butt in college and had very average SAT and ACT scores.
When a fake recruited athlete passed across the desk of an admissions officer and they saw they were full pay and wealthy enough to expect future donations, many of them probably just rubber stamped them.
To lighten things up, I just looked at my son’s college email inbox. (Sadly, he doesn’t check it every day, but I’m a little obsessed, so…)
He’s had an email from a college asking him to apply, saying “Applying to college shouldn’t be scandalous.” It then goes on to say “At our college, we don’t look at your parent’s wallet, we look at you.” Kudos to Juniata College! Very clever!
@tpike12 – good point about the full pay. I’m sure that’s part of it.
Each state has their own higher education regulations. None of them, as far as I know, recognize high school principals as qualified neuropsychs. They can’t sign off on a medical diagnosis because they aren’t qualified to make one.
do you guys think its a good idea to have an independent body ( i called it jurors) to watch this adcom decision play out one by one ?..
I heard they present the case and everyone votes on the kid … never been inside the room of course … don’t know much!
The elite colleges that are involved in this scandal have that luxury. Most private colleges don’t. They have to look at your parents’ wallet, because they need the money.
“Well, someone who could not get into USD could try for Point Loma Nazarene, Azusa Pacific, or CSU San Marcos, or start at a local community college.”
@ucbalumnus…Yes, those are good University of San Diego alternatives.
I visited one of my former students attending Point Loma Nazarene…amazing location right on the cliff overlooking the surf spot “Sunset Cliffs” in San Diego (Point Loma)!
As a surfer, this would be a dream come true for me in theory, but ultimately way too much temptation. Don’t think I’d have the discipline to study there!
Oh, I agree, @LisaNCState, and I know we can’t make an informed judgment about a college applicant without seeing the whole application. My point is that she likely wasn’t a recruited athlete, so academic stats probably mattered more, USC has a 16% admit rate while Stanford (at under 5%) is the most selective university in the country, her scores put her square in the middle of the pack at USC and in the bottom quartile at Stanford, so…I’m wondering what in her profile apparently made her really attractive to Stanford but not USC. And, of course, why on earth would she think it was a good idea to sue over getting into Stanford and not USC (unless she’s dumb enough to think it could be a money grab, in which case she isn’t smart enough for either school, imo).
@austinmshauri - CEO signs off the profit and loss statements done by accounting firm every quarter!! … they (CEO) are not accountants either … Signing brings in credibility and another set of an eye who ask right questions!!!
its funny no one from Hollywood said anything so far - FOR or AGAINST! ( I believe)
As a parent of a USC freshman who got in through the front door I am still in shock over this new scandal. Perhaps DD should have gone to Barnard instead and I am starting to feel pretty bad I coerced her into accepting USC Viterbi over Barnard.
The college admission system is broken and no obvious way to fix it. The schools as a group need to work hard to come up with a plan to legitimize the college admissions process or the government will forced by outraged citizens into doing it for them.
@LisaNCState Probably a lot of Hollywood parents are in a panic right now!
So they keep saying that many of the children did not know. But I have this question: I assume that almost all of these schools work their applications through the common or legacy app. These are very comprehensive applications. It asks for everything school or after school related. If the student that did not play soccer, or row crew or play tennis is now told by their parents to put that on there or inflate their accomplishments how could the student not know?! They are also signing off on the app that it is the truth. I can see that the SAT and ACT scores could have been changed without their knowledge but not if they had to ask for extra time or special accommodation or going to a different center. Very curious to see what will all come out…
