I’m currently in my final year of IB and I’m thinking of applying to a good film school in Boston. My ideal school would be Boston University, but I’m open to any other suggestions. Also, to all you guys who are currently applying/attending a film school, how much experience do you need in order to get into a descent film school. Because of IB, I haven’t had much time to do much or any filming for that matter. I’m thinking of doing a gap year to beef up my portfolio. What do you think?

Thanks! Any help would be much appreciated :)

I would also rec Emerson, or BU which you already have on your list. You do not need to take a gap year. If you take a film course this summer, you’d be ready for applications in fall. Here’s a look at what Emerson requires for intended film major applicants:

This is a short film to submit --you can easily do this during the summer!
I don’t know where you live, but can you take a course at a local community college this summer, or at a local art college (look at their Pre-college programs). If you live near DC, Corcoran School of Art still has space available in their pre-college programs. You could even just take a course at a local art center.

Post a thread on this forum for recommendations based on where you live. You should get some good ideas on where to take a film course this summer:
