well prostition is a nice option, loans and scholarships look nice too. But which scholarships?

I would strongly advise you to also apply to some colleges that do offer aid. It is not true that if you get accepted to a college without aid, you can maybe pull through somehow. You have to keep the financing options in mind from the very start; that doesn’t mean you let aid dictate your choices, but you cannot totally disregard aid either.

As for your financing options, you can try applying for outside scholarships to lessen the burden (word of warning- very hard to win outside scholarships, generally the amounts you can win are low; maybe $3000 if you are really good, but every buck helps!). You can also work while you are at college, and you will probably have to even if you do apply for aid, but again working as an undergrad will not really cover a significant chunk of the costs. The rest is unfortunately up to you and your family- maybe you can get a loan independently and pay it off once you are out of college, though that’s a risky option. And of course there’s the simplest option, make your parents bear the costs, but I assume since you asked the question that’s not really an option.

Bottom line- at least in the US, with the most expensive colleges in the world, getting by without aid is gonna be difficult, and if you are really determined to go down that path, make sure you plan very very carefully with your parents. You could also try a few colleges outside the US, say in Canada or Australia, which have little aid but have lower overall costs than in the US.

Many:

Kidnapping

Extortion

Organ trading

Smuggling

Robbery

Prostitution

Loans

Scholarships

lets rank them in order of simplicity:

how does organ trading get #2 in your order Pranjal?

well I would really like to get into Purdue for aerospace. And I hope i will. But they only provide like $2000 i know every penny matters. But what about funding from other sources? OK consider I take an educational loan for a year. But then what about my finances after that? Can you link me to some sites please

there are a few options after 1st year:

1.) u get scholarships (around 15-18 K)
2.) on campus job (7K per year)
3.) co-op internship (very high paying…its like 65-80% of $48000 at pdue)
4.) sperm donation ($900/mo)
5.) take a lil bit more loan if req.
6.) live in fraternity or off-campus, west laffayette is like $300/mo off-campus, its cheap that on-campus
7.) live 4-5 ppl together, ull find indians there who will want to do this, most of them do it
8.) dont take meal plan, eat bread or something
9.) dance at a bar…like “kajra re…kajra re” …lol

ok, 9th one was a joke, but others are a fact at pdue, i have quiet a lot of frnds at pdue, all that happens there, (yea sperm donation is common in US).

and yes u do co-op 22 months in 5 sesions and yer degree is made 5-yr long…wat u gain is money and a lot of work experience, so its a gud option, provided some company takes u

What about those of us who are female? :p

Seriously, though, I’m personally hoping for need-based grants (which is a dismal prospect really – MIT/Princeton/whatnot are need-blind and give generous aid, but fat chance I’ll make it); if not, I’ll shoot for loans, scholarships (sadly NTSE won’t pull through for outside-India study), or in a worst-case scenario beg a rich family member.
I don’t go out, eat next to nothing, and buy nothing save books, so my expenses will be pretty low to begin with.

noldo i guess the cost at pdue is $33,000. anyways thanks a lot for your replies. btw which other colleges are need-based except MIT and Princeton?

Most of the upper-league (Harvard, etc) will be need-blind. A lot of others (Caltech, Stanford, UChicago) are not need-blind (viz. they consider the fact that you need money when deciding on your admission), but they do offer aid to accepted students.

Could become some sort of lab rat!!!
