Thank you…me too!

@sparkleshirley, I thought of another reason why your daughter may not have felt as pursued by Fordham–the program director is on sabbatical this semester.

Final Decision: Otterbein, BFA Acting!!

Background: As I’ve mentioned here and there, son decided he would like to major in MT following great success at the first (and last) Thespian event he attended. Since I had already wrapped my head around the idea that he would major in Jazz Studies, drum set, I did not have much further to fall from the once held belief that son would someday be a scientist, lol. Son had been involved with theatre since he was in elementary school, participating in Children’s theatre and school productions, but has not had formal acting lessons. The only dance experience he had was tap lessons when he was four. He was the only boy and was not impressed! I still have the cute patent leather tap shoes to remind him of his missed opportunity Son is a member of the school’s Chamber Choir, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and Symphonic Band. He recently got a group of guys together to form an a cappella group. He has also written a one act play that was presented at a State competition.

This has been a wild and crazy year! CC was the foundation of my education of the MT audition process. Though son has a lovely voice and is a good high school actor, I needed to know that he would have some kind of chance at auditions, and that we weren’t on a wild goose chase. CMU pre-college, MTCA and his private voice teacher helped to assure me that he had talent, keeping in mind that what the audition results would be was impossible to know. Son attends a relatively small public school by CC standards. The one theatre teacher is also an English teacher. She and son’s friends have been his biggest supporters, and have been cheerleaders to him during this process.

That son had three acceptances is amazing. That two of the acceptances came from his two top schools was miraculous! Otterbein and Coastal Carolina are both programs that have good and kind people, in addition to top notch training. Son was thrilled to be accepted, but dismayed when he had to pick one over the other. In the end, he picked the school he felt fit him best. Like AssttotheMT’s D, son did not agonize over the idea of being a BFA Acting major instead of MT. He will have opportunity to take private voice lessons, will be taking dance classes, and will also have the opportunity to take classes for Acting majors that he may have missed as an MT.
I would also like to take this opportunity to make a shout out for the University of Southern Maine. It is a lovely program and could be a great fit for a student. Son wanted to attend out of state and we agreed that if he was accepted to an out of state school, and the financial piece worked, he could attend.

Thank you to every one of you! This outcome would not have been possible without the generous sharing of information, the highs and lows of the audition process and everything in-between.

Great Choice! Congratulations Entertainersmom and Son!!! Boy do I have some cool people to visit in the next 4 years! 2 hour road trip to Westerville from Cincinnati…coming with donuts! How do we stay in touch with all of our CC friends?

Someone from a class before us mentioned creating a private facebook page. I’m technically challenged, but maybe there is a tech savvy person out there???
puma69 - Who knew Ohio was destined to be the happening place? Hoping our kids have a chance to hang out with each other

@entertainersom, I love the idea! I was noticing that so far, our kids are going in so many different directions with nice diversity in the schools selected, it might be fun to stay in touch.

AND… congratulations on Otterbein! I’ve heard very wonderful things about their program from some folks who’s relative is alum.

Octaviar- Can’t wait to know your S’s final decision :)

The Otterbein campus was lovely during our visit, and the folks there were even lovelier!

I’m pretty sure I know how to set up a Facebook page for the 2018 theatre parents. Like this post or make a comment if you’d like me to do it.

Yes, Yes, Yes!

dramamom0804, could you set it up as a 2018 MT/Acting parent page? I know I travel between the groups as do others. Thanks a whole bunch.

Yes, having a Facebook page would be great.

Yes, my mom would love to join one of those groups.

You’re awesome dramamom0804!!

Doesn’t the MT group already have a FB group? I don’t mind making for both but don’t want to make a duplicate. I thought I heard chatter on the MT thread about a FB group of their own?

Hmmmm…I thought that was a kid’s group. Any group would do me just fine! I just know I’m already starting to miss people. 8-|

Applied (all for Acting unless otherwise specified): Hartt, SUNY Buffalo (applied for MT), UNCSA, Syracuse, DePaul, Purchase, Marymount Manhattan (applied for MT), Wagner (applied for MT), Muhlenberg

Accepted: Hartt, Muhlenberg

Rejected: SUNY Buffalo, UNCSA, DePaul, Purchase

Wait-listed: Marymount Manhattan, Wagner

Lost my audition: Syracuse

Final Decision: Muhlenberg

Coach: Holly-Anne Ruggerio/College Concierge. (she’s so great, I highly recommend her!)

When I visited and auditioned at Muhlenberg, I was really blown away by everything they have to offer. It took me a little while to realize just how much I liked it though because I was fixated on Hartt for a long time; however, my family’s financial situation didn’t agree with Hartt’s price tag, which I realize now was a bit of a blessing in disguise. I’m a firm believer in everything happening for a reason, and I have no doubt that being unable to afford Hartt was just God’s subtle way of pointing me toward where I am truly meant to be. I spent so long preparing and stressing over this process, I absolutely cannot believe that it’s all behind me, but I am so looking forward to the next four years studying what I love in a place that I love

Congrats daniellececelia!!!

Congratulations daniellececelia!!
