Finally, a product that works...

I am pathetically happy that I have finally found something that makes my dishwasher worth using again. For months everything has been coming out with a cloudy film that no amount of scrubbing would remove. I tried every rinse agent, vinegar treatments, even CLR, but my nothing helped. I just tried something called Lemi-Shine, and I cannot believe how sparkly my glasses and silverware are now. I guess this just proves that I am a shallow housewife at heart, but this stuff is great!

Any one else have any products that you swear by?

I’ve had a hard time finding something that would clean the sliding glass doors of the shower. I tried the Mr. Clean Eraser sponge last week and it worked great. It didn’t leave any residue and it literally wiped off the yucky stuff.

Denture cleaner gets the ick out of toothbrush holders & glasses (be sure it doesn’t damage the finish of the glass or whatever you’re cleaning.

The Mr. Clean eraser sponge cleans the walls in our house REALLY well, too. And the stove.

Lemi-Shine! - so happy when I discovered it too for the dishwasher.

Bleach Pens - great for grout and caulk lines.

Swiffer Dry Cloths - the only way to dust.

Shallow housewives unite!
(actually, I’m a terrible housewife. . .)
My rinse agent doesn’t seem to work–sounds like I need some Lemi-Shine–I’m gonna try it.
Thanks!

Two Flylady cleaning products:

Detail Duster: [FlyLady.net: FlyLady’s Detail Duster!!](<a href=“New/Most Popular Links | FlyLady.net”>New/Most Popular Links | FlyLady.net)

Those little sea anenome-like microfiber extentions and the mitten design make dusting super fast. I ended up buying several of them. I can dust a room, including all knickknacks, frames, and crevices in less than 3 minutes with this thing!

Rubba Scrubba Brush: [FlyLady.net: FlyLady’s Rubba Scrubba!!](<a href=“New/Most Popular Links | FlyLady.net”>New/Most Popular Links | FlyLady.net)

This brush is the BEST for picking up pet hair, getting the edges of carpets in the stairs or along the baseboard, or cleaning grates (like the fan in the ceiling of the bathroom).

I couldn’t live without BIZ. For cleaning rags or camping clothes- anything really gross- it works beautifully.
It’s the best for cleaning rug stains. It removes pet accidents better than any cleaner I’ve tried, even those marketed for that purpose. Pricey, though.

Roomba is my best friend! It’s so wonderful that it goes under furniture so I don’t have to move it & doesn’t stir up dust the kicks up our allergies!

H loves “SpicNSpan” to remove mold & mildew without harsh chemicals. Sometimes he needs to apply it a few times but he is pleased with the results.

Glad I found this as I prepare to do a major clean up of the house we rent out to tenants…just had the group of guys move out and things are a little too unclean for my liking.

lje62 - for a bathtub that has probably been left really gross by renters, fill the tub with water and dump in a packet of coffee pot cleaner!

Kajon, believe it or not , the tub is good ( looks like it hasn’t been used at all )…the one shower is horrible though and also it looks like they never put slat in the water treatment system ( a must with all of the minerals in the water in my area ). Do you think it might work on the shower and washing machine ? I am not a big fan of using really strong cleaners because they are usually tough to breathe around and it is a little too cold to open windows these days

blankmind, Where do you get lemi-shine? I just got back from my local grocery store and they didn’t have it. I also have had a real problem with a film on my glasses and would love to get them looking as clean as they really are.

Some of my grocery stores have it, I have found it at some Wal marts and Targets. There is a store locator in the link above.

It was absolutely the best product for our glass shower. The next thing I did was switch from Ivory to Dove. The Ivory soap is what was leaving such a film; once I got the glass clean with the Magic Eraser and switched to Dove, we’ve had no problems with the film.

It did kind of gross me out to realize all that film was probably on my body, too, everytime I used Ivory.

I checked the store locator for NJ and it lists a whopping 1…but it looks like you can have it delivered and also might be good for some of the stains I will be dealing with in the rental house

When my s was two years old, we lived in our first home with wood paneling everywhere. He found a sharpie in the desk drawer of the built-ins in the kitchen. He then proceeded to use the sharpie on every surface he could find: front windows, wood paneling, kitchen cabienets, linoleum floor, wood kitchen table. Thankfully, he couldn’t reach the kitchen counters. I walked into the room after his art project was complete. I think this was the only time in his life – he’s now 21-years old – that I marched him upstairs, plopped his butt on his bed, and shut his bedroom door with the admonishment, “if I see your face before your dad gets home, it won’t be good.” Still shaking I called my mom and she told me about goof off. My son is alive today because of that wonderful product. I will say that you need to be careful with it and test it somewhere where your results can’t be seen just in case … but it was truly a miracle worker. Every surface I cleaned with that product, indcluding the wood surfaces which I wood oiled afterweards, were pristine again. All the sharpie drawings were gone.

S was safe again until he decided to use a fork when he was five-years old and carve his name on the front of an antique chest of drawers. He’d completed 3 of the four letters of his name and then proceeded to tell me his 2 year old sister had done it. LOL I was deeply concerned for his smarts at that point … luckily it was a momentary glitch in the grey matter wiring. :)

zebes

Best cleanser for enamel sinks: Bon Ami!

zebes - we always keep Goof Off around the house. It’s also great for removing residual price stickers, etc. from items (glasses, frames, etc.). Be sure you wear gloves when you use it, though, particularly women who have polished nails!

However, people need to be aware that there’s also a product called Goo Gone that is packaged similarly. It is NOT the same product and does not work like Goof Off.

My DD carved her BABY SISTERs name into a wood paneled wall, as if we would think the baby did it  She later carved pictures into the clearcoat of the hood of the car when Dad left her alone with the keys while he jogged!
