Financial Aid for accelerated med programs

I had a thought that came up earlier today.

How is financial aid distributed in things like 6-7 year accelerated med programs? Do incoming freshman receive the same aid as one who would be doing a 4 year bachelor’s degree? This may likely vary by school, of course, but I’d still like to know the general gist of some of these mechanics about people who know about this kind of thing.

It varies by school. At some point, your student will no longer be considered an undergrad. Any aid for undergrads will stop at that point. This includes federally funded Pell Grants. Also, Direct Loans for grad students are unsubsidized.

Contact the schools to see when this happens.

You need to ask each school. Thumper is right. Usually much or all aid ends once you’re in med school.

Thank you for your answers!
