Financial Aid

I fear I may have misunderstood the financial aid instructions. I have filed my FAFSA but not the separate University Application for Financial Aid. I thought that we were just to have the FAFSA filed and then if we were admitted we were to fill out the University Application. However, in my e-mail today I read that the priority filing dates for both are March 1.

If accepted to the University, I anticipate being eligible for full financial aid through AccessUVA. If I do not have the University Application for Financial Aid filed by March 1 is this detrimental to me receiving financial aid if accepted?

this is a question that you should directly ask the university rather than on these forums.

[From the Financial Services website](http://www.virginia.edu/financialaid/enter.php):

Call them ASAP.

Alright, I’ll call them. If only February had more than 28 days. :p

Datkid, I guess my husband made the same mistake - he filed the FAFSA in Jan but he didn’t do the UVA form. He’s recovering from open heart surgery so I guess I’ll have to figure this out tomorrow. Glad my son got the email… Just printed out the UVA FA forms. These have to be mailed, right? Wish it could be done online like FAFSA.

I just printed the forms as well. They have to be postmarked by March 1st, correct and not received by March 1st, correct?

UVA’s financial aid form must be RECEIVED by March 1st in their office. It can be faxed at the number on the financial aid application, (434) 982-5222. I’m not sure about Carnegie Mellon’s.

sonssecty,
Thanks for the tip about faxing. I was expecting to do overnight mail. Faxing is easier (and cheaper).

Wow, I didn’t know it had to be received. Thank you sonssecty. That’s a lot of papers to be faxed. Ah, that one was close.

I filed my FAFSA a while ago and then I did the university form and sent that in during this past week (Monday or Tuesday I think). I got an email saying that it hasn’t been received, but if I’ve sent it already I should disregard the message. But just to be safe, should I send the information again or fax it perhaps?

There’s your answer, TJ.

To be frank, sending multiple copies of documents just slows the processing down for everyone.

Thanks Dean J. I guess I’m just freaking out needlessly. :/
