Hoping you’ll add Parenthood to the list.

I forgot, I did watch an episode of Parenthood. It was good…I will watch more. Have to put it on the list. I started Sherlock and found it a bit frenetic, but I plan to give it another try.

If you enjoy BBC costume drama, you might enjoy The Forsyte Saga from ten years ago.
(in fact it’s available on YOUTUBE)
[Forsyte Saga Part 1 - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

A warning - I didn’t like FNL, so my tastes may vary. One of my all time favorites is “Six Feet Under.” Two of my new favorites are “Homeland” and “The Killing.” Not sure where to catch up on their first seasons though.

Also loved “Extras” and “Episodes.”

NCIS, “the Middle” (super show, very funny). One old series I really loved was “Monk”.
How I Met Your Mother.

I’ve seen both version of The Forsyte Saga. (And read the books. And the somewhat-related books. ) Homeland looked realy interesting, but so far haven’t been able to access beyond 1st episode.

I loved Smash. Glad to know that there will be more. I had never heard of Katherine McPhee, and I love her.

For those that loved Connie Britton in FNL you can look forward to her new series Nashville coming in the fall.

I can’t wait for Nashville! I hope it’s good. I’ll let y’all know if it’s realistic! :)

Maybe “Californication”. If you’re not totally offended by the third ep then you’ll be okay.

OOOH, Connie Britton in something called Nashville sounds very promising! (And just because this is CC, she is a Dartmouth grad. I wish she or Shonda Rimes were speaking at the graduation…instead we are due to be edified by the head of Teach for America. Call me shallow, but last year they had Conan O’Brien, and I could do with a little entertainment!)

Just read that Friday Night Light’s Jesse Plemons will be joining Breaking Bad for an ongoing role this coming season. (When great TV worlds collide!) Any of you out there who haven’t gotten on the Breaking Bad bandwagon need to get moving–I don’t know one person who hasn’t loved it, even if they needed some urging to watch a show that sounds so dark.

So many great shows already mentioned!

Treme, by the same folks who brought you The Wire. Doesn’t reach that level, but compelling in its own way (about post-Katrina New Orleans), and with some of the same actors.

The West Wing. Can’t believe this hasn’t been mentioned yet–lots of good interpersonal relationship (not necessarily romantic) subplots.

The Sopranos. Dark, dark, dark, wickedly funny, violent (there is one episode in particular that rattled me for weeks). If you can handle The Wire, this is well worth watching. CC tie-in: see how a mob boss can take care of business while touring colleges in Maine with his daughter. :)

In Maine?? I’ll have to look that up!

I think the OP said she’d watched West Wing.

I was utterly enthralled by the nine seasons (but British seasons are much shorter) of MI5. They are all on Netflix. I really binged on it, and couldn’t believe when it was over.

You have to be able to stomach the idea of London being bombed or poisoned or whatever frequently. But the characters are really interesting and so is the action and the production values are wonderful.

And congratulations on your S’s Dartmouth graduation.

Nurse Jackie and Lilyhammer.

Thanks, mythmom. I can’t believe he’s graduating already! I love MI5. I watched the first 6 or 7 seasons on dvd from our library, and only just recently realized that there were more seasons on Netflix. I have indeed watched all of West Wing, which I adored. Have you seen Cracker? (The British version) It was wonderful.

No, Consolation. But I’ll certainly look that up!

Another rec (especially now that I know you also liked West Wing, and now that you know that my reading comprehension is abysmal :)): The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard. It was a british series about the rapid political ascendency of an average typical woman, married with kids and working as a supermarket manager. It unfortunately was cancelled before completing its story arc.

And speaking of great BBC series that were cancelled before being “finished”, The House of Eliott. Scrumptious.

Thanks, Slithey, those sound intriguing.
