I am north of @romanigypsyeyes, and we have probably 10-12 inches now … another 4 predicted overnight. All the schools in our area have already closed for tomorrow. The school where I work is closed, but I will be going in … no rest for the wicked.
Yes it was a 3x shovel day…it is pretty wet packing snow that makes for miserable driving so not looking forward to the commute tomorrow morning and super glad I but the bullet and got new tires last month. Too many face to face meetings to work from home tomorrow…bummer
Where we are going in about 10 days got 14" of snow in 24 hrs!
Y’all need to come visit us in Honolulu. I promise no snow!
So what I’m hearing is that we made the right move from Illinois to California in 2015 (after 40 years in Chicagoland)?
I grew up in Michigan and have lived in Chicago and Boston as well. I miss the snow and never minded driving in it. I love those big flakes, weighted pine branches, and the muffled silence that only snow can bring. I loved being cocooned in a snow-wrapped house and baking all day–and envy those of you upthread who are doing just that.
I live in a sunny place now, and it has its charms (attended a wine tasting on the lawn this afternoon), but I miss the snow. Stay safe all of you in the snowbelt, but enjoy.
Choatie, having grown up in Phx, I have a love for the magic of winter, as contrast to my desert childhood. Wisconsin does winter very well, though I falter in some important ways, not having been born to the lifestyle.
My roommate just got back from work. His usually 15-20 minute commute took almost 2 hours… and he has a very snow friendly car.
It seems to have stopped snowing but the radar is showing another band coming at us.
Looks like we got about 2-3 inches but no rain. Supposed to be in the 40’s today, but it’s overcast so I don’t know if there will be much melting.
Seems like norrh and east, where elevations are much higher, must have gotten more as a lot of schools are closed. Just delayed in my area.
I’m not on the tennis schedule today so I will be baking - choccie chips cookies.
Got about 7 inches with more predicted for the weekend!
3 inches here…and now it’s raining. Yuck…big yuck.
The wonder and beauty of winter snow is awesome!
For two days, assuming none of my loved ones need to travel in it, the power stays on, we are fully stocked, it neither begins nor ends with ice, and it immediately and fully melts without a week of overnight refreezing.
Moved to Tampa 4 1/2 years ago from Wisconsin. The Christmas season just doesn’t seem right without a white backdrop. Don’t even do a secular season anymore. It is strange to see all of the winter weather style decorations.
I have some great memories of the beauty of fresh snow and even clearing it. But- I also immediately think of the COLD and all of the other inconveniences. Florida has finally cooled off enough to be bearable- highs above normal near 80. Have to remind myself to spend time outdoors here.
I miss so many things about the up north foliage but need to remember that’s a late May to October thing. Fine, soft grass, no snakes or alligators in the way, good soil, so many flowering plants that don’t grow here… Snow and cold are best as a memory for me. See you next summer…your fair weather friend.
Thanks for reminding us that moving to a warm climate isn’t always without its regrets, @wis75!
It’s too cold. I’m not ok with this >:P
Here, it’s saguaro cactus wearing Santa hats. Just no.
Second big Midwest snowstorm starting now! Another 8 to 10 inches expected here in southeast Wisconsin. Oh, joy.
I honestly don’t mind the snow…but what is annoying here…we are supposed to get 6-8 inches…and then Sunday the high is 54…with rain…so it will all melt. Too bad…because a white Christmas is nice.doesnt look like that will happen.
For once I’m glad there is going to be bad weather tomorrow as we have a bris to attend in southern CT. I already rsvp’d that if the weather was bad we wouidnt be going,
We’re getting the rain and warm up after snow, too. It’s because we bought the snowblower.
The cold isn’t bothering me either. The coat I bought last year is incredibly warm. I walked the dogs earlier and with windchill it was 5 degrees but I was toasty warm. This is my best purchase ever.
The high in Dallas on Saturday will be 75. The high on Sunday will be 32. Weather has been a multiple personality witch this year so far.
