First Big Midwest Snowstorm!

We’re expecting a blend of snow/ice/rain and back to snow in the next 24 hours. So much so that my S and DIL’s mini-vacation flight to Florida was already cancelled tonight. :frowning: This is TOO MUCH winter for mid December!

We have a new snowblower also. Guaranteed to be a light snow winter. We are supposed to get 5-8 inches before it ends about noon tomorrow. But I’m guessing it won’t be that much.

DS commencement is today. We were not able to drive on our interstates to get there, it’s only an hour away, but police advising staying off roads…some people in jam for up to 8 hours. We were all very upset, but he went over and asked if he could walk in May. They said yes…so glad for that. But we were pumped up for today and now he’s stuck there until maybe Monday. The best laid plans…

Odd that this commencement was still taking place @conmama since the state police were advising staying off the roads.

I know. I called to see if it was at least delayed. But, his college town was not hit as hard as the central part of the state and the commencement is for the students, not spectators. Plus, I’m sure the guest speaker was there and all the profs participating. Anyone who lived north would have no issues getting there. I’m guessing the registrar just thought they were able to still have it for the graduates, so proceed. I think a delay would have been in order. However, the exit onto the interstate we need to take is still closed due to an accident, so it wouldn’t have mattered to us.

I wish I had been smart enough to look at the weather channel. We would have gone up last night.

He was bummed and I was happy he wanted to wait if he was able.

DH is using the new snowblower to clear the 8 inches or so we got. I’m waiting for him to come in and tell me that getting this newbie was a great idea!

Wow, you got a lot! We got about two inches but H is going to use the snowblower anyway because why not?

I heard rain with thunder later. So weird.

Verdict in…new snowblower is great.

What did you get Thumper? We got a Toro.

Ariens Deluxe…24 inch. $999…but theyngave us $350 trade on our 18 year old one that needed a new electric starter.

This one is lighter…and maneuvers better…or so DH says.

Our old one was an Ariens too. We had a small Toro before that at our old house with a much smaller driveway!

Ours is a pretty big Toro and same price as yours - though we are sharing it with neighbor so it only cost us $500.

That’s called thundersnow.

“That’s called thundersnow.”

Not when it’s raining it isn’t.

We had snow over night and this morning. Tonight it’s going to rain and thunder and be close to 50 degrees.

High temperature of -2 tomorrow!

It’s 18 degrees here in Dallas with wind chill of 1 degree. That doesn’t happen very often, but at least there is no ice/sleet/snow. I wouldn’t mind snow, actually, but can do without the ice.

Well…it’s almost 50 and raining here in CT. Honestly…this weather!!

Same here Thumper. Rained all night and it just stopped. Snow is mostly all gone. But, temp is supposed to plunge late this afternoon and warning is out for flash freeze/black ice on untreated roads and surfaces. :frowning:
