First College Acceptance - does getting a scholarship count as an award?

Recently was accepted and got a presidential scholarship to SUNY New Paltz after applying EA during SUNY free week: I only have 4 awards right now, does getting this award count as an honor on common app? And would it be wise to put it down or no?

No, this wouldn’t really be considered an award for the purposes of your common app. If you ultimately do not attend the university giving the award, you won’t be receiving it anyways.

But congrats on your acceptance!

Congrats on the acceptance. I would not list a merit aid from SUNY New Paltz as an award.

ETA: You do not need to fill every space on the common app. More important that what you do include is meaningful.

Agreed. That’s not an award that you should list in your Common App. It’s a cost of attendance reduction granted to you by SUNY New Paltz, a form of financial aid, and not a true award.

Thank you everyone!

No…this is not an award. It is something given to you by a specific college only. I would suggest that you not include it on your common application.

But congratulations!

If you attend, add to your resume.

Congrats

I’m quite hopeful that @tsbna44 means to add this to your resume AFTER you choose this college if you matriculate there!

Yea as I said if you attend.

My kid has 3 scholarships (endowed) at Charleston

If she had gone to UF or W&L, she wouldn’t put on her resume. But because she attends the school that awarded them, they are on there - and she can talk about how she “earned” her tuition.

I will say, however, both of my kids had scholarships for both undergrad, grad and professional schools. None of them are on their resumes. And never have been. So…maybe not so important!

Depends if they are endowed or not…or have a name.

They may not be important. On the other hand, they may be a discussion point for helping to pay your tuition.

It may not help but it won’t hurt.

If the scholarships are endowed, than there is further meaning.
