Those “it’s a phishing scheme” comments on Facebook, and certainly here, always make me roll my eyes. First, most people know if they’ve used that question as a “secret question” on a website. Plus, the person seeing your answer doesn’t automatically know your email and password and where you tend to log-in. Third, of course, is that this is an anonymous site, anyway.

I’m pretty sure that there are loads of real scam attempts ( just read that thread) but the “this is a phishing scheme” scolds are just feeling, and/or passing on, empty drama.

My spouse deals with this stuff all the time and says first concert is a security question sometimes. Not as common as the first car, maybe, but apparently it is out there. I don’t think it’s super dangerous since we don’t use our real names on CC but I would refrain from answering this on Facebook.

Really not empty drama. My husband works in IT security for a major organization and has to deal with people in the organization falling for phishing schemes all the time. A lot of this stuff is harvested by bots.

I admin a fairly large private group on Facebook and you would not believe the number of fake accounts out there trying to get inside your Facebook profile.

But like I said I think here where we don’t use our real names it’s unlikely to be an issue. I just wanted to pass on the warning.

Of course phishing schemes exist. I just don’t believe, and haven’t seen any evidence, that they are based on trivial FB or CC random questions.

Edit: but I promise I won’t post here my first roommate, my mother’s maiden name, or what hospital I was born at. Oh wait–the latter is totally public record. Please don’t steal my banking info. Nevermind, no worries–this fact has nothing to do with it–none of my most sensitive financial information asks these questions anyway.

Please do PM me for my mother’s maiden name - then please DO steal my mortgage, car loan and student loans!

This is completely off topic and I feel bad to keep talking about it, but I feel like I need to respond because those Facebook quizzes are a real and documented threat. Don’t do them. CC is probably okay but those FB things are bad news. Remember the Cambridge Analytica thing: Facebook–Cambridge Analytica data scandal - Wikipedia

First Concert: Bobby Sherman
Best Concert: Il Divo
Wish I’d seen: James Taylor with Carole King

I’m not a big concert person, I’ve seen several but don’t seek them out. Too loud, I don’t like standing nor like listening to songs I’ve never heard.

First–Beatles, Forest Hills, 1964
Best–Grand Olde Opry (the most recent always is best)
Wish–Woodstock…I actually had tickets but didn’t want to battle the traffic

First-- Steeleye Span/Fairport Convention

Best-- I usually joke it was the last one I saw. Also hard to compare very different types of shows. Seeing Guy Clark, Joe Ely, Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt share a stage was incredible but then bouncing up and down to The Interrupters and Frank Turner was also amazing

Wish-- Replacements, Husker Du or REM in Athens

Best-Joni Mitchell? Joan Baez? Guy Clark was memorable.
