First Daughter's College Choice?

One of my friends said that she visited Swarthmore recently!

Yup, she was at Swarthmore and Haverford this past week. Rumor was she was visiting friends and will be headed to Stanford. Time will tell…

I hope, for her sake, that if she’s headed to Stanford, it’s because she actually wanted Stanford, not because security is easier on a relatively self-contained suburban campus than at a city school. If she really wanted NYU for the film program or either Barnard or NYU for the experience of living in New York City but had to go elsewhere for security reasons, it says something very unpleasant about our society.

@PurpleTitan I’m on campus at UofC for business several times a year. I often grab lunch with one of my children’s peers or perhaps a student I mentored on a science project. Those sentiments seem to be mentioned quite often. Would my 18 yo self feel that way? Absolutely not!

Great school.

@MaterS, it’s all relative, but there are far more isolated campuses and homogenous student bodies than the UofC has.

Not really true going in the opposite direction.

Don’t think those UofC students have experienced many other colleges.

@PurpleTitan They are using their life from birth to college as a reference point.

We will all hear May 1st, i imagine, just as it was for Chelsea IIRC.

@MaterS: exactly.

“I don’t think Malia would find UofC to be cosmopolitan enough to feel comfortable for the next four years considering her background.”

She grew UP there, for heavens sake.

@Marian

You know…attending Stanford would not be a bad thing, regardless of the reason.

I’ll be patient. At the end of the day…the is an important decision for this student and family…just like it is for all,of,the rest of the rising college freshmen.

What are the criteria for getting in to the undergraduate film programs at USC and NYU? The Tisch School programs in things like dance are audition-based.

At USC, there is a rather detailed app for cinema majors, which differs, depending on which particular area within cinema you’re interested in and whether you’re an entering freshman of transferring into the cinema school.

Maybe she’s already made her decision and she and her family just don’t think it’s the public’s business.

Wherever she picks, I hope she’s happy and that the press and public just leave her the heck alone.

If she’s interested in film, and not just cinema studies, all reputable film schools are going to require an artistic portfolio which includes a sample of her work and a detailed list of her experience/resume.

I want to know if she was rejected from any school. I wonder how many applications she sent out.

A very famous pop singer wanted to go to my kids’ school, but she was turned down because the school didn’t want to deal with security and paparazzi.

I would think first D gets in to her first choice. I think she probably has pick of any school in the country. Lucky young lady.

I hope she is able to attend her first choice school , whatever that is. More than one child of famous parents attended school with my D. Five hours from a major airport cuts the paparzzui to nearly zero.

College of her choice is a just reward for having to grow up in the public eye for 8 years IMO. :slight_smile:

I think Sasha, Malia, and everyone has done an amazing job of keeping the young ladies “below the radar” for the 8 years of President Obama’s time in office and am happy that they were able to enjoy as “normal” a childhood as possible under the circumstances. I am sure that she will “bloom where planted,” as most of our kids do. She does have some unique perspectives to add wherever she attends.
