Yes, she looks great and really love that MOB dress. She wears it wonderfully.
I just idly wonder why a CA wedding designer. There are plenty of high enders in the NYC metro area. Would they not work with the family?
And I may have missed it- but am unclear whether he paid the vendors he did purposely, outside any arrangements with MW, so not to stiff them, but leave the focus on more specific dealings with her.
Also agree it’s not unusual for an event planner to use their own, known and seasoned assistant staff, trained in accordance with the boss’s preferences and systems, rather than use unknown locals in that role. Wait staff, movers, valets, of course, would be day hires.
My take on this guy is that he doesn’t take kindly to being pressured and/or ripped off, and is willing to fight back. He paid the big bills–catering, florist, music–in full and apparently on time. It doesn’t sound as if he has a habit of stiffing anyone. Some people expect businesses or individuals with deep pockets to pay them to go away to avoid potential embarrassment or legal costs. Sounds like he’s the wrong guy to tangle with.
Just a comment: I’m sure that no one is surprised by a family’s refusal to pay a bill because they WANT it. Their past behavior of not paying bills speaks for itself. Mindy Weiss started her career in my neck of the woods. We did not use her for son’s wedding. We have been to a few events that Mindy Weiss has been the planner. They were lovely events… I believe that this comes under the title if you have to ask (beyond the signed contracts with dollar amounts agreed to) how much will be charged. for add ons…you can’t afford it.
I just finished reading (again) Empty Mansions, a story of a mega rich woman who valued her privacy so wouldn’t sue people who ripped her off, stole from her, etc. She felt her privacy was more important than a $1M here, $3M there.
I agree that this guy doesn’t let people take advantage of him. He needs to learn to get a written contract for services. He needed to limit this wedding planner to the $100k charge for her services that he thought they agreed to. She’s the one who will lose, though, as he has two more kids to get married and Weiss will NOT be the wedding coordinator. He probably has friends in NYC who won’t hire her if she was trying to break into the NY scene.
“Really, dragging up old law suits does not have any bearing on the wedding thing.”
They speak to a pattern. Maybe the pattern is being a tough customer who won’t let people rip him off. Maybe the pattern is being one who doesn’t negotiate firm contracts and monitors them (would be strange coming from a lawyer by training).
When it comes to operating in an arena of that kind of wealth, 2 things seem to be true:
-
Many very wealthy people are not always good at paying their bills on time and in total. Ask vendors and tradespeople who deal with the very rich, and they’ll tell you this is true.
-
Some folks like to overcharge and rip off the wealthy thinking they have deep pockets. More affluent people can attest to this.
“Aren’t any of you living differently now then when you were earning less?”
Not me. Unless you count upgrading the bathrooms. But I’m super cheap with everything but food. Shoulda seen my wedding!
(Though I admit I love those linens with the green leaves.)
And many of us have our original faces too
I took a peek at the website of the co owned by the Carls. Gorgeous stuff. Especially bathrobes! So pretty. But when I saw that each is $750, my $25 Costco robe began to look even nicer.
My original face is almost out of its warranty period @-)
“My original face is almost out of its warranty period.”
I’m gonna buy some new fancy linens and just put them over my head… :-*
Well…the NY Post has an article about the lawsuit which has somewhat different “facts.” http://nypost.com/2017/03/19/couple-sues-production-company-over-hostage-wedding-videos/
New York must be loving this.
Alternative facts? The court will a field day ruling on the summary judgment!
LOL the article says they also used drones to film the nuptials. Guess that’s a thing now.
Actually, the drone thing is a big thing. People use it to get the shots for those fancy wedding videos.
Let’s talk about the ostrich eggs for drinks. (you can find photos online) How is that even a good idea, away from the expense of it all. Do you know how big an ostrich egg is? I’d have to hold it with two hands. That would get in the way of stuffing my face with all the fancy food.
Ewwwww… Talk about grossing me out, any raw egg is going to make me run for the bathroom to barf!
I don’t think there is any raw egg involved. It is just the egg shell being used as the container for a drink.
It’s nice to have a dream wedding for your child that is memorable but if I had a million dollars I would spend 10% on the wedding and 90% towards whatever the newlyweds needed. (downpayment for a home) A vacation every year for their anniversary. (That way it isn’t about 2 or 3 days but memories and experiences that last a lifetime)
Still gross. Were those shells properly sterilized? Yuck.
