Hey everyone!
Currently a high school senior! I messed up my freshman year, and the the second semester of my junior year. Quick breakdown (unweighted)…
Freshman Year: 1.9
Sophomore Year: 4.0
Junior Year: 2.75
Senior Year: 3.25
Overall High School Unweighted: 3.0 (…I know)
Overall High School Weighted: 3.7
Top 30% weighted GPA wise.
Despite having terrible, unreliable grades for the most part, I have taken 10 AP courses. So basically, these ones:
-Chemistry (1) I did relatively well in the actual class…most people passed it…weird
-United States History (4) ironically, this was the class that destroyed my GPA. Got a D.
-English Language (3) I was super nervous and hadn’t taken a single practice exam. My bad…
(this year)
-Physics 1
-US Government
-Macroeconomics
-Psychology
-Statistics
-European History
-Environmental Science
I’m honestly looking to pass all of them this year. I’ve worked my but off in physics. I’m looking at a high 3 and possibly a 4 (I’m better at English/History).
I would really like to be a political science major…and hopefully attend either UCLA or Berkeley. Berkeley has been my dream school since 9th grade, but I knew I was going to a community college since before stepping on my high school’s campus (yipee financial struggles).
So basically, starting community college as a sophomore, could I apply to the UCs? Do I have a real shot? I won’t have any grades, just credits. I’ll definitely be getting straight As contemporary to my application, as I’m basically retaking statistics, US government, and macroeconomics first semester (required), so I’ll already know the material. I messed up in high school, but I know I’m smarter than that (but doesn’t everyone think they’re smarter than that?). So do I have a realistic shot? I’m a smart kid, I think. Here are what my extra curricular activities are looking like right now…
-Creative Writing Specialist at my camp this summer
-Internship at relatively large blogging website (would rather not say which one, due to privacy reasons…but it’s pretty large)
-I write short stories, and am currently getting Sony to look them over.
-I write screenplays, with the same case as above^
I’m also thinking of being a part of my college’s student government organization. It seems pretty weak right now, ngl. I do really well with rhetoric, so I hope to turn it around. I’ll probably also join the Jewish organization on campus.
Also, I already signed up for FAFSA and the Cal Grant. How could I postpone the Cal Grant for my later studies? I don’t want to use it while school’s still cheap. Are there any other financial aid programs I could be apart of? My Cal Grant GPA is a 3.14 (yay pi), if that helps. And my family income is $75,000 with a household of 7 and 5 dependents. I’m also a SoCal resident.
