Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

@ClassicMom98 @HMom16 Plantar Fasciitis is such a pain! I assume that is what I had several years back…for various reasons it was not convenient to get it checked out so I diagnosed it myself (even though I am generally in favor of going to the doctor and getting a prescription for Physical therapy.) I found a lot of the suggestions on the internet were actually pretty helpful, especially rolling the foot on ice (small frozen water bottles worked best for me) and always wearing something like crocs or oofos in the house. Also massage like classic mom says, on the arch, hurts but did help. It’s just that it takes a long, long time to go away.
That first episode came on suddenly-- I hurt myself somehow doing an aqua-aerobics class that had a lot of jumping in a waist-high section of the pool and clearly it was more jumping than I was used to. Annoying because pool exercise is supposed to be relatively easy on the body!
Now when I start to feel anything like that in my feet, I back off right away.
Good luck with it.

@orangepurple, yes to wearing supportive shoes or slippers at all times!

I took a PTO day today. Hot and humid but I got out early and ran 6.5 miles. Then H and I walked another 3.

Today is my birthday. Being able to do the above at age 63 makes me feel very, very lucky.

@FallGirl

WTG! Happy Birthday!

3.1 miles on the trails and 9 holes of golf walking. Beautiful day here. Sunny and 70!

@FallGirl And many, many more.

Listened to the body and took a day off today.

How about a high five to everyone posting or lurking on this thread - we’ve reached 100 pages in comments!!! Thankful for this common denominator.

Hmom16 - Strasburg sock cured my PF after 2-3 nights 5 years ago. Never came back

Kudos to all posters!!! Happy birthday @FallGirl !

Went for a walk - our regular loop with the cardio hill at the end. Good day. I moved the TRX and the free weights into my C-Suite aka basement corner from where I work. They motivate me to get up and move.

4 miler here in low 70’s. Gotta COVID PR with a 42 VO2 as measured by garmin.

I just woke up from my nap. I’ll entitle my run “2 fisherman and a fox.” (no runners or walkers!) 3/4 mile of my run was on the riverwalk trail - hence the 2 fisherman also out at oh dark thirty. The fox was in the middle of the city about a mile from my house. S/he’s the 3rd fox I’ve seen this month, all in different areas of the city. That’s 3 more foxes than runners - lol. Video of the day was “Total Body Tempo.” The first two groups of exercises kicked my tail. The 2nd two were easier for me. And then a big junk food breakfast and a 2 hour nap. Love Saturdays. And now off to vacuum the bottom floor and maybe also mop some. and some bathrooms… and laundry… but at least I have 2 days to get it all done.

I’m so happy for Westminster Strength & Conditioning & I applaud their grit & problem-solving skills.

They “re-opened” this week by setting up nine squat racks outside the gym.

Quick pop-up tents on standby for rain.

According to their latest IG post, the first week they were able to provide 297 time slots for training.

The gym owners & coaches are having to haul all the racks, weights, benches, & mats outside, then back in, daily. O.O

8.3 miles done for my Race Across Tennessee. It was warm and humid and I had to take a bunch of walking breaks. I guess that might be part of being almost 68. Maybe it’s my new reality. Got it done, though! Went by the Tiny Little Donuts Airstream trailer for a box of mini-donuts to bring home. You call them from your car, pay over the phone and they bring them out. SO GOOD! My next run is going to be on sand!

Mmmmm…donuts.

I sure miss Apple Fritters. I haven’t had a donut since…a very, very, very long time.

I had a good week.

This is my Heavy Light Four Day Split:

Day 1–Heavy Press 70# x 3 (where I left off before getting sick). Will try 71# next week. Back-off set was 65# x 5. Then Volume Bench was 90# x 5 x 5. LTE 45# x 8 x 3 (PR)

Day 2–Heavy Squats 166# x 3 (PR) then Volume Deadlifts 190# x 5 x 3

Day 3–Heavy Bench (Boo! Hiss!) 100# x 3 then back-off set 95# x 5 It’s going to take me some weeks to beat my bench PR of 103. Volume Press 62 x 5 x 5. Unassisted Chins 4 sets of 2. Yes, my golfers elbow still bothers me off and on.

Day 4–Heavy Deadlifts 215# x 3 (PR is 217) then back-off set 205 x 3. Volume Squats 140# x5x5

Based on some feedback (podcast), I’m going to try to raise the weight on the Volume sets. I had really, really, really been enjoying the “break” that lighter volume sets were providing, both physically & mentally.

But, the podcast suggested that Heavy Days could be a heavy triple followed by a set of 5 for back-off, and heavier Volume Days will drive progress on the Heavy Days.

We’ll see…it kind of makes sense. I knew lifters complained about Volume Days. I didn’t get it! Maybe because I was treating Volume Days as an easy day.

Coming up fast on my one year anniversary of getting my squat stand, so I hope by the end of the month, I have some good PRs to share (in everything except bench!)

Also, I have a hiking date on Tuesday! Yay!

@Midwest67 Awesome week!!! Have fun hiking!

@Midwest67 Strong numbers! Bench is my strongest lift by far. And because the bench is my strongest lift, I spend WAY more time on my weaker lifts, which is almost everything else.

After a 1,000m warmup row, I then built to a heavy triple back squat day, followed by a few singles up to near PR level. Then multiple sets of power cleans. The HIIT was a combo of front squats, power cleans, jumping back and forth over a dumbbell, which took 16:21. And I finished with 50 GHD sit-ups and a 1-mile run.

Good day. Started off with a wake up walk. SD visit to my mom across the state line to deliver her needed items. A bunch of yard work - planting, cutting grass, pulling weeds. FInished it off with a 3 mile run.

Next 3 days call for rain though!

Terrible exercise week due to foot pain (ok now) and a perfect storm of work and family urgent issues. There was ice cream along the way. But I’ll be back to running when I can.
