@FallGirl Note to Self: Avoid running on wet pavement. (kidding) I’m glad all is OK.
Today was Oly lifting day with snatches and cleans. Actually went a little heavier than normal in my small gym, but stopped before the weight became really serious. About 90% of my max weight.
The HIIT was a combo of lots of air squats, pull-ups and hang power cleans. Time: 14:05. And finished up with a 3x10 of ring dips.
Went for a walk on the trail last night and I swear we saw @sushiritto in the park by the trail side! Just kidding… But the folks with their TRX and other equipment reminded me of you! These guys and gals were spread apart and just doing their thing quietly… One guy had a set of (mighty heavy looking) kettlebells and what looked like a box of Chlorox wipes.
Nobody in their right mind would have been out there this morning, which would explain why I was out there. It wasn’t dangerous, just pouring windy rain, and my legs were super sore. The rest of the week will be like this. We are supposed to get 6" of rain, so I figured I may as well get used to it. Maybe I’ll sleep in later this week, but I didn’t want to start the habit already. I set out a full extra set of clothes (socks & shoes!) to change into after the run. Good thing. I needed it all.
Anyway, it wasn’t much more than a slow bounce/jog/crawl. To add insult to injury, the video of the day was “Strength and Power,” of which I had neither - especially since most of the exercises seemed to focus on the legs! I almost quit the video several times, but glad i stuck it out. And oh so very glad tomorrow is an off day from the videos.
H had to go to a meeting at school. Younger S is still asleep. Older S is back at his apartment => I’m really enjoying this still and quiet house this morning.
See @sushiritto - you have a reputation to uphold! @ClassicMom98 I would NOT have been out there!
Gorgeous morning for my final Florida beach run. Started on the shaded path and hit the beach for the last mile and a half. 5.6 miles done. Heading out to walk some now and then sit on the beach for a bit. Flight home early tomorrow morning.
The bike shop called and said my bike was ready. I have an older, but much beloved bike that needed some TLC. So I walked/ran to the bike shop and they had it working (and looking) great! They even had some nice side baskets that hook on my rack that will be great for groceries or a yoga mat and beach towel. Super happy to have my bike back.
@milee30, I’ve been hearing that there’s a bike shortage in the US, so glad your old one is working for you.
Got my exercise in both yesterday and today. I worked today for the first time since March, and came home and walked 4 miles. Then I did my exercise bike for 30 minutes.
Yes, I hung out and talked with the owners of the bike shop for a while and they’re sold out of most of their inventory right now. They also said they’re about twice as busy as normal in the repairs department.
For the record, I often see male runners without a shirt. And female runners with “sport tops.”
I’ll be curious what the new rules will be for CF gyms and shirts when they reopen here in CA.
There is a local public basketball court where they took down the baskets, because of the SIP rule. But I see a young guy some mornings, when I pass by, who must throw-up some gymnastic rings on the basket supports to do various exercises. Yesterday, when picking up dinner, I saw a couple young guys using a tree branch to do their pull-ups.
Today I worked on handstand push-ups and deadlifts. The HIIT was a 15-min effort combining the rower, jump rope, lighter deadlifts. And I finished with an 8-minute 20/10 (work/rest) on the assault bike.
Core work was accumulating max time doing L-sits using the rings for balance.
I have to say, today was not one of my better efforts. Disappointing in fact. But there’s always tomorrow and the next workout.
Went out for a walk this morning - only 1.3 miles as I’m testing the ankle. It was fine except a slight pain. I will try a few more walks. My goal is back to some short runs this weekend. I plan to do a short upper body strength video with weights during my work break.
Spent some time on the phone with one of my running friends yesterday. She and a few (like 1 or 2) others live near each other and have been running together. They meet at a designated place and maintain social distance (from each other and everyone else). I told her that in a few weeks (fingers crossed) when the ankle is ready for longer ( 6-10 mile) runs, I will join them on weekends. I’m getting tired of not seeing them in person and I need a change in scenery.
Had to get up really early to travel home from Florida, but landed back in TN at 8:30 am! Got out to run before 11 am for 3.3 miles. Maybe a little more on the treadmill later- as I make my way across Tennessee in my virtual race.
I’m not sure how I"m going to go back to work without having these extended naps. I’ve been wiped this week. (not COVID-19 wiped - at least I highly doubt it.) Today was my easy day. My run was lucky - it was only a windy mist. It wasn’t fun, but felt better than yesterday. And then just “range and recover” (i.e. feels like easy PT) and a few minutes of a hip opening yoga video. Maybe it’s just the weather. This is the first time that I haven’t dressed in work pants. I’ve got on my fleece lined sweats.
It was raining this morning so I stayed inside for 4.1 miles on the treadmill. I’m over 20% finished with the Great Race Across Tennessee. I’ll be happy when I get to Chattanooga. Walked the dogs. Spending time on my butt in front of the computer…work, work, work.
Completely agree. The only reason beaches and lakes get closed after heavy runoff is sturdy bacteria (E. coli in particular) that can be dangerous because it stays alive in those conditions for a while… Covid is an RNA virus, so by definition is flimsy and needs a live host to multiply. I would not be hesitant to swim in a pool or an open body of water… as long as the latter is not 20% goose poop or infested with alligators or snakes. ? Interestingly, the article also refers to published studies (Nature) that failed to grow viable, infectious Covid form fecal matter even though bits and pieces of the virus were allegedly detected in it.
Unfortunately, you will not be able to swim during any future Florida vacations. Around here, if a body of water is the size of a bathtub or larger, it probably already has an alligator or will soon and there are snakes everywhere. And the water that doesn’t have alligators has sharks. And then there are the really super special places like brackish water that host all three… I grew up in Florida so am just used to it, but it never ceases to amaze me how many tourists don’t seem to understand that wildlife doesn’t respect property lines or manmade boundary concepts. They’re shocked to find a snake or alligator in one of the lakes at Disney or they love Sanibel but don’t take a second to think that all those gators, sharks and snakes that live in Ding Darling Preserve are perfectly happy swimming a few more yards to the beaches or bays. And I’m holding my breath to see when the alarm gets raised about the crocodile preserve at Turkey Point near Miami… sure, the wildlife experts will tell you that American crocodiles are less aggressive than some of the others, but wait until 14 footers start appearing on Miami beach. It will be interesting.
I just swam in Florida in the ocean 2 days ago and I didn’t see any gators or snakes! Saw some jellyfish washed up on the beach, but nothing “got me” while I was in the ocean.
My point exactly, @milee30. Covid is the last thing I would be concerned about when entering a body of water to swim, and yet people seem to freak out about the virus more than the real risks.
