Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Biked about 28 miles today.

I have done fine with exercise during COVID, but my eating and drinking have been pretty bad.

I picked up groceries yesterday, which included junk food, but starting next week I’m going to try and get back to my normal routine, which is drinking mostly just on weekend nights, and not eating so much ice cream / Helluva good onion dip and dark russet chips.

I hear you @1214mom. I was doing well with eating and drinking until the last 2 weeks or so. I need to cut back on the wine, I find the 2 glasses/week is becoming 4. Also H did some baking (he is bored!) and that isn’t good.

much needed rest day from pounding. I did walk this morning but the trail is still under water in spots and mucked over for a lot of the rest. We were all pretty down with a 3 day weekend and nowhere to go and nothing to do. Nowhere to even really nice to walk. H suggested we drive to the big city to shop at Whole Foods. Oh wow. We are all so excited now. (not sarcasm) older S also brought a big box for Platos Closet to try to get some $$$ for the non eBay items. It felt so weird driving out of town. First time outside our small city in over 2 months.

@Midwest67 - Good Job! Thanks so much for sharing. I agree - being fit and ready to age well is a big priority.

@orangepurple

Once that golfer’s elbow flares up, it’s not so easy to put the fire out. Ouch!

5 mile run/walk this morning. New route, new views.

@FallGirl

Booze & baked goods are so seductive!

H and I drove out to a park for a nice walk/hike this morning. Weather is cool and cloudy, so not the prettiest day, but nice to have some new scenery. My run will be later as this is Monday (week 5 of the women’s training, yes we always had a session on Memorial Day).

Our local running group had a run this morning- first one I’ve gone to in ages. They started back a few weeks ago. It was good to see everyone. Social distancing around here has relaxed. We weren’t on top of each other, and the runners spread out quickly, but people were standing and talking at closer than 6 feet distances. I didn’t think we would have a water stop, since usually it involves big bottles of water and sports drink, paper cups and pouring things. Turned out they set out a cooler at about 3 miles with those small water bottles on ice. I drank one and carried one with me. It actually fit in the side pocket of my wonderful new Oiselle shorts.

A woman brought homemade cinnamon buns for afterwards in the parking lot and we all visited somemore. Felt almost normal.

6.3 miles for me. It was hot and difficult, but I got it done.

T-storms/isolated showers again every day this week. Grumble. This morning it was still misting slightly - I was not amused on my run, but in general it was alright. Once I’m done with this morning, I’m going to finish phase 3 of P90X. after Phase 3 of 80 Day Obsession and The Work, I’m ready to see how my legs feel running during a program that isn’t so hard on the legs! But I do love this program. Week 5, The Push. Lots of complex, combo type moves. I will like to do this program again some time, now that I’m more familiar and comfortable with them.

Our trip to the fancy out of town grocery store was just what we needed. We are going to be more daring today. I found out the state parks are open for daily use. We are going to the closest one - an hour away. It’s sort of tucked out there in the middle of nowhere, so I am hoping it won’t be that busy. We will order/pick-up subway and eat by the lake. I found a hike that we haven’t done. It’s only a little over 1 mile, but it is listed as difficult. And it might be really sloppy/muddy with all of the rain. I hope not, but we will bring a change of shoes. 2 hours of driving, lunch outside and maybe 30 minutes of hiking => Hopefully a good day. (fingers crossed it doesn’t rain/storm)

^^ Sounds worth it to me! As I heard on a podcast today, “if now isn’t a good time, when is??”

Sounds like a perfect plan @ClassicMom98

I love all this talk of dessert.

The pool opened! I swam!

Okay, lots of rules: this is a lap pool, not a recreation pool, so people sign up for a lane at a certain time, one person per lane, enter in a particular way, swim, then leave. No sharing gear, let alone bathing suits if you forgot one, no locker room use, so no changing or chatting. The group that usually meets Sundays signed up together and we did a workout together. Much like old times. (No locker room conversations, no meeting for coffee afterwards, yes to awkward moving of gear from one end of the pool to the other. We did have shouted conversations in the parking lot.) The gym staff was happy to see us. Speaking of gyms, people are nervous about using the gym itself, so while the place has a plan for gym use, no one is utilizing it.

Competition for a lane is pretty fierce so we are still doing dryland workouts on Zoom and are still swimming on tethers when we can’t get a spot.

That’s a great update @Lizardly

Have you gotten used to the tether?

Did over an hour bike ride around the neighborhood, walked with a friend for over 4 miles, and took 2 bikes from our garage to son and his GF. Productive day.
Now sitting on The deck having wine. Will Head inside soon to start dinner and let the kitten out. If she could stay way from older cat her time out of her safe room would be so much longer. Hopefully they will figure things out eventually.

I did it! I did it! Doing a little dance now. I’ll take my bow now too. :grimace:

I’d posit that the most famous and/or infamous CF workout is named “Murph.” And it’s a Memorial Day CF staple, since the workout honors a Navy Seal who died in the Afghanistan war and generally honors all our fallen war heroes.

The “Murph” workout consists of the following: 1-mile run, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats and another 1-mile run. All done with 20 lb weight vest for males, 14 lb vest for females. Although most people do the workout without one.

The generally accepted (by CF) world record “Murph” time is 38:36 set in the CF games a few years ago.

Sushiritto’s “Murph” time, er, just a tad slower, in at 73 minutes with the weight vest.

One other salient fact. Temperature was 90 degrees.

Right about the 75% complete mark, I felt a bit woozy, but continued because I knew that was the right thing to do. ?

^ @sushiritto !!! 622 likes for your reps, miles, and pounds. You rock!! (Bowing down)

WOW!

I mean, I was already screwing up my face in pain as I was reading your description of the Murph workout … but 90 DEGREES!!!

Congratulations! A toast to you tonight, @sushiritto ! Cheers!

@Midwest67 I can still only swim on the tether about five minutes at a time. I can start up again after a pause, but can’t just keep going and going.

No records here, just doing lots of yoga. Every day there’s a virtual class that I take–I’ve even tried a few new classes (Yin Yoga and Ashtanga). There are days when I do two yoga classes. In addition, I’ve done a few on-line kettlebell workouts. I need to get back to weight training but I have depended on a trainer and now that a trainer isn’t available, I haven’t done much. Is there an easy-to-follow weight training program online? When I look, I have no idea how to evaluate what would be good program to start. I have some equipment–a number of kettlebells, hand weights, pilates magic ring, but don’t have barbells. Also have TRX. Plus an old treadmill and an old Stairmaster.
