Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

I’ve done something to my back. Like in the middle, not the lower back/hip thing. I’m taking today off and hoping it gets better.

Lol, I have one of those digital speed signs on my street - I’ve a slouch, I’ve only gotten it up to 5 once! The road is kind of bumpy so I don’t want an injury for playing with a speed sign!!! Lol

@Youdon_tsay - I hope your back feels better soon.

@Youdon_tsay - hope your back feels better!

Wondered if anyone had a recommendation for a warm, cozy drink to replace hot cocoa/coffee? Mocha (instant hot cocoa + instant coffee + milk) is my last hold-out in the effort to remove dietary refined sugar.

Been drinking this for decades (!) but it has to go (want to keep teeth white too!)

Have tried tea, hot water, broth (all too thin) - can’t seem to find something tasty & warming that’s not loading me with sugar. lol

Appreciate any thoughts!! :coffee:

@Youdon_tsay hoping the back has returned to being healthy again.

Thanks, all. I did a workout today but didn’t go full throttle. Some movements I avoided, but overall it was great. By this evening it was stiffening up again. We leave tomorrow to take care of my mom so I can’t imagine my back will get any rest as we have to help with getting out of bed for toileting and such so there’s a lot of using the back on these visits.

If you do use your back, then make sure to bend your legs and knees and keep your back in its proper lumbar position. No twisting.

From my childhood I sometimes still enjoy warm skim milk with just a tad of sugar and butter to it. So comforting!

Thanks, abasket! I already use a lot of milk in my coffee/hot cocoa so I’m almost there! Really want to stop staining my teeth and having to bleach, etc (sorry if this topic is a little off the fitness topic…initially thought the sugar reduction might qualify!)

Heard this one on the news today. File this one under “Elle Woods” being correct again.

After taking Wednesday off, my first day off in 10 days, Thursday was my first attempt at Murph prep. I’m starting slow and building up.

During the past couple of months, I’ve mainly focused on the powerlifts prepping for the competition. And keeping my HIIT’s shorter (10-15 +/- minutes). Also, keeping my runs between 3-6 miles max.

It’s time to get rid of those 2-3 lbs that I gained for the meet. :grinning:

Yesterday I ran 1 mile, followed by 20 minutes max of 5 pull-ups, 10 pushups and 15 squats and then a 1 mile run with the weight vest.

Thankfully, I got 14 rounds in during the 20 minutes and ran 9:30 miles. Slow and steady for 1st time out in 2024.

Poof! 1 lb gone. :joy:

Just checking back in.
Playing soccer 1-2 times a week and some walking.

The shoulder thing I had going on is likely my rotator cuff. I’m doing PT which is helping

Checking in from New Zealand. We’ve had pretty good weather (not as warm as we expected but not as wet as it could be). On this trip we are riding mountain bikes with big fat tires, and they are heavy. It’s really hard to get started on them, especially when going even slightly up hill. We haven’t gone as many miles as usual on bike trips, but mountain biking is harder work than road biking. We’ve probably eaten more than we should, even considering the exercise.
We were slightly worried about signing up for a 12 mile alpine hike after our bike trip, but we easily hiked 12 miles once on this trip, so hopefully we will be OK.

Wow that’s a long hike! How many hours does that take?

I think this belongs on the bragging thread. Nice job!!! I’m glad you’re having a good time!

I’m glad it’s helping. My H hurt his several years ago at work - doing some kind of stretching or something with the kids. Workers comp denied it and basically called him a liar. He was soooo mad. He still will get fired up if someone mentions it 7 years later! So he refused to spend any $$$ on treatment. He did try to rehab it on its own. It did get better. It took a long time, like 9 months or so, but it did get better.

So have patience and good luck!

Thanks. This morning is the first time I got out of bed and didn’t make a noise, so progress!

I basically did the same workout today as last Saturday. It was somewhat better than last week, but of course have a lot of room for improvement. But something funny… I thought I the TM portion was so hard. I’m dying, etc. As soon as I’m done, I walk the 150 feet to the bike. By the time I get there, I feel like I’ve done nothing. Am I a head case or what lol

Glad the PT is helping.
