Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Maybe people who were skipping breakfast (which is what most of IF folks do) were eating more of the “unhealthier” lunch and dinner foods instead of the usually healthier breakfast fare like yogurt, oatmeal, eggs, fruit, etc. I don’t think the study did a deep dive into the types of food the subjects ate. But this is just my speculation.

Wondering if the folks who wanted to do IF for the study were higher risk (family history etc). Also I’m a bit skeptical that all in the study could keep it up for between 8 and 17 years.

That would be possible to find out and do a deeper dive. I only skimmed the links, but I believe the study authors tried to control for health history.

In one article it did say more of the IF participants were. I think they said a higher proportion were African American who tend to have higher heart disease. I wish I could find that article again.

Here is a link to the original poster. Too tiny for my aging eyes to study on my phone screen right now… so no comment.

This article discusses the potential pitfalls of the study and also has links to other studies that found zero benefit from IF.

The final two paragraphs are what I’ve been basing my opinions on.

Though, IF helped improve the outcomes of Type 2 diabetes patients. Some time back, we had a CC member with Type 2 diabetes who posted that IF helped improve their blood sugar levels.

We showed up to play pickleball on the courts we’ve used for almost 2 years, and we were greeted by big trucks and other equipment, tearing the courts up… guess we won’t be playing there for awhile. Fortunately we have other options, but none as convenient for all 10 of us.
I think we are established enough that we will make the extra effort, but I hope people don’t stop playing.

Bummer! I hope they are being resurfaced and not going away.

That really stinks. I think I would call to see what it’s being replaced with. Hopefully just resurfacing. I can’t believe no notice was given!

Checking in. I had a really nice run on Tuesday. It was a pseudo speedwork session. 2 miles w/u, followed by 1 mile harder, 1 mile easier x 3. My hard miles were 7:03, 6:52, 6:55 and the easier between 8-8:15. I’d love for them to be 30 sec faster, or not feel as hard as they did, but it is progress.

I think I’ve spoken - at least in a different thread - about my grandfather. When he died, a lot of very strange things happened in the following weeks, so I knew that he was watching over us. He always told us he would do this. And ever since, during most of my runs a random street light will go out as I approach it and turn on afterwards. I usually tell my grandfather hello and thank him for watching out for me. This morning a LOT of lights did this, here and there throughout the entire 60 min run. So many, it was eerie. I’d like to think it was my grandfather telling me my MIL was now alright.

I also wish I was better at German. I’ve been listening to a new podcast about health & fitness for women during/after menopause. It’s very interesting, but I’m not sure enough about what she’s saying to tell y’all in case I get it wrong. It’s just nice to have someone tell you’re not crazy when you body completely flips out. Everything you’ve ever known about how your body works and reacts to everything just changes!

Cool story about the lights.

Yes, to me your times are very fast! Your mile pace is in the range of my kilometer pace (about 8min/km avg). I can only blame a little of that slowness on my short legs.

Thanks. I try not to look back too much, because in the old days that wouldn’t have been anything to write about. But I never had any ultra super fast speed. My superpower was being able to run pretty fast for a long time. There wasn’t much difference between my 5K speed and my marathon. God forgot to give me the fast twitch muscles - and a pair of good lungs. I’ve never scored above 81% on a lung capacity test.

But today I was grateful to be able to run at all.

I have not run much this winter, only 6 times in first two months (though some of the days I went more than my usual 5k). March is looking a little better, with some improving times (3/10-41:42, 3/19-40:55, 3/21-39:50). Hoping to continue to get a bit faster before the summer heat comes along to make me slower.

For a light to moderate HIIT workout I did this 20 minute one today along with some other exercise. No extra equipment needed.

Last night I did the 2 mile walk to dinner with my grandson in the backpack and the 2 miles home without out him.

This AM I went to yoga with my wife and daughter. We had talked about doing another walk this afternoon but instead we installed the baby gates on their stairs.

This evening we had soccer tickets so we got in almost 3 miles of walking (toss in other steps and walking I had a 15K step day)

We went home in his carseat. My SiL drove to restaurant after getting off work. Post dinner, SiL, Daughter and baby went straight to their house while DW and I walked home

We refer to my grandson as a FOMO kid. It is probably genetic. I was supposed to work this afternoon while my wife, daughters and grandson went for a walk on at the cool boardwalk over the wetlands. I blew off work and joined them. We walked someplace north of 3.5 miles (I carried grandson in backpack for just over 1/2 of it). It was awesome
