Aww how fun!
Well, one of the chargers is wireless so I don’t think that’s it.
A wireless charger?? I don’t know about this!
All the talk about stairs on another thread made me think of this staircase in Santa Cruz County.
I’ll usually climb the staircase, up and down, for 30 minutes, along with all the other exercisers, on my non-running, non-gym days. I forget, but it’s about 150-200 stairs.
So the opposite of Stairway to Heaven???
I’d be OK running up but not going down!
BTW, my Apple watch seemingly needed an update and is acting a little better. Still slow but at least it’s charging. Dh researched and found that Apple says that if your battery health gets down to 80% it’s time for a new battery or watch. I’m at 84% so I’ll start looking for something soon.
That staircase zigs and zags up/down and is a heckuva workout. I begin by running up and quickly walking down, but at some point between 5-10 round trips my legs get so heavy they become hard to lift.
What’s great about it is that someone at some point installed metal tubing underneath the staircase at the bottom so one can do pull-ups and/or toes-to-bars.
A friend and I are contemplating doing water aerobics classes together. (She really wants something low impact, and I like the idea of trying new things since running may get harder down the road as I age). Stopped by the rec center today, and not sure I’ll love it.
PROs - low impact, upper and lower body movement; nice chance to socialize
CONs - rec center is 15+ minute drive across town (I am retired, so this is more laziness than time crunch); the whole dressing room / shower / water routine seems like it could be a pain
Thoughts?
I used to love water aerobics. It seems like it attracts many senior citizens though so it can be a little too low impact. My favorite was a deep water aerobics. That was a great workout.
I don’t love the dressing room thing but it isn’t that horrible.
I do a water aerobics class. I don’t shower at the facility. I have a thick robe I wear after until I get home, I’m more comfortable with that.
I have considered doing this, but like you I would have to drive to the location and am not excited about that.
I was also going to suggest as the weather gets warmer to just towel off, throw a sun dress or tshirt and shorts over your bathing suit and come home and shower and dress.
Water exercise is said to be so kind to your body and joints.
We have a pool now and I would actually like to find some videos of pool exercises that are not “old lady”. Anyone ever see anything like this on YouTube or otherwise?? Pool time not for a couple of months…
Try it for awhile. If you like it, great! Keep it up. If not, stop. You tried something new and that is great.
Water aerobics is not for me personally. Aside from the whole “swimmer who hates the water” thing, I spent 7 years as a swim coach butting heads with the water aerobics ladies at our YMCA. Never have I witnessed such repeated un-Christian like behavior from grown women. Once, they were literally shoving my swimmers (mostly ages 7-10) out of the way, even though their time had not yet started. So for personal reasons, for me it’s a big NO. But somehow I don’t believe you would be like that!
Some weeks back I posted that I was going to start adding swimming to my repertoire. I lasted all of three times. The swimming itself was fine, but dealing with wet hair so frequently (I normally wash and blow out my massively thick, unruly head of hair once a week) proved to be the obstacle. So, I get you on this.
Depending on how deep your pool is you might like fluid running- you wear a flotation belt and it’s a great workout- utube has some videos.
The water aerobics class I watched yesterday was deep water, with floatation belt. Sounded challenging in write up but looked mellow.
Running is my main gig, and I don’t like he shower schedule logistics at home for that either. Sometimes it means two showers in same day or washing hair two days in a row… things I’d rather avoid. But I’m hoping to give this a try, at least long enough to help the friend get a chance to get established in the routine.
It is a bit challenging to get good videos of pool exercises because filming needs to be done both under and above water to show the correct technique. I’d search for rehab for runners videos and articles. Should be plenty!
Here is an example.
Are you calling me a weak runner?!
My high school athletics was limited to synchronized swimming. Maybe I just become an expert at ballet legs again 50 years later…
No, not at all! That article is geared towards good runners who want to get even better. Wish we had an easily accessible pool here! Lack of aquatic facilities is a big issue in our neck of the woods.
OK, this study’s findings seem counterintuitive. When you lose weight, typically, you become healthier.
