My treadmill just died
@Youdon_tsay - May your treadmill rest in peace. But yikes on timing… bet you do need to exercise/de-stress.
Rode my bike to the lake in cool weather (but 52, not quite as cool as the fun run day). Left my gloves and long pants and top layers with the locked bike. Then went for my run in shorts / short sleeves. Proof of concept for next year’s fun run. The clothing left with the bike is all old and thrift shop stuff, no crisis if stolen. What a glorious morn!
I had avoided this trail the past few days, due to a nearby bear sighting. (Poor thing had wandered through time, shown on social media in various locations.). Had a chuckle about the man/bear discussions. I’m just not keen on running into a bear… especially outside his normal habitat.
What make/model, if you care to share? Any thoughts on what you might get as a new/used one?
I’ve grown to love the curved manual treadmills, way fewer electronics to go bad, kind on your joints, if that’s an issue for anyone, etc., but I also enjoy using the regular treadmills for longer runs as well.
UPDATE: A breaker flipped. Treadmill is still operational. Woohoo!
The model … uh, not sure. I got it from my Buy Nothing group.
I am still training for the Elliptical Olympics in 2028.
We used our road bikes and did a 30 mile ride with near 2,000 ft of elevation. I can ride a long ways when it’s flat, but elevation makes it tougher, for sure. We are kind of “in training” for a bike trip in October, so we need to do many more rides with elevation.
That’s impressive!
We rode out to lunch today in nearby small town. (Fun place - sooo many cylists! lots of tables to picnic outdoors. the outhouse is popular). It was only about 7 miles total, mostly flat. But the wind was a bit of an issue for me. Not for hubby - he was following on his ebike.

I don’t have time to watch this morning, but will take a look later. Dementia runs in my family, so I definitely worry about it.
I’ve enjoyed running in 50s and 60s degree weather this spring. Today I didn’t get out til later afternoon, 78. Was thankful for the breeze an partial clouds.
Near the end, I was running around more people… a little slower than my normal pace (40min 5k, ie 13 min mile). Two large, out of shape young guys shouted - “nice race walking”…. I was not sure if genuine or not. Maybe they saw me grimace, since for me it was running jogging. As I got past people I ran a little faster and heard them comment “well that’s actually pretty fast”. Decided to put it in high gear and sprint for a while.
No offense whether you’re going speedy or slower I’d never comment on someone else’s pace! Jerk move! Nothing wrong with race walking either - it’s a skill as well!
Between a morning run, pup walk, prepping and planting my vegetable garden and tons of outside yard work, planting, clean up (can you say WEEDING?) I have 12+ miles on my watch for the day. Probably rinse and repeat tomorrow!
Agree with abasket - keep the running comments to yourselves, dudes! You are doing great with all the running, Colorado_mom!
Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s documentary is premiering on CNN tonight at 8 PM EST about Alzheimer’s and dementia. He wrote a column published today. I bolded a couple sentences.

And on that note, I hit a PR on my squat this week. A whole 1 lb. I used a 45 lb barbell instead of the usual 20 kg (44 lbs) barbell.
A PR is a PR, by 1/100th of a second or by an hour, by 1 pound or by a ton! Kudos!!
That’s very interesting, thanks for sharing. I never thought of a weighted vest but that might be something for me to try. I do a lot of walking.
If anyone cares, then the manufacturers that I’m familiar with are 5.11 Tactical, Rogue and GORUCK.
5.11 Tactical is the brand that LEO’s use, though I’m sure not in all cases. The LEO vests are a different version of vest. One can purchase weighted plates in various increments of lbs, which fit inside the vest both in the front and back.
I have a 10 lb plate in front and a 10 lb plate in back.
I honestly highly recommend them, though they’ll take some getting used to and they can get expensive, unfortunately. There may be some sales right now, because the Murph is a week from Monday.
A quick funny gym story from yesterday.
One gentlemen was getting hyped up for a big deadlift and asked another lifter in the gym to hit him hard on the upper back with two hands, just before the lift.
So, as requested, just before the lift, the gym member hit the person on the back with his two hands, and knocked the lifter over the deadlift bar, but braced his fall with his hands.
I laughed pretty hard. One of the funnier things that I’ve seen in a gym. The lifter was successful with his deadlift though.
Thanks! I will look into those.
I think I will need lighter weights, though.
When you figure out what’s good for you, let me know… I’m thinking it’s a good idea, but more in line with your weights than those of @sushiritto .
I have the GoRuck back pack. It can accommodate a water bladder which is nice so I don’t have to carry a water bottle. It took me a few weeks to work up to 20#. It definitely adds a new dimension to a walk! If I hike with elevation with it I use my hiking poles.
