Thanks. We had a group skype call with both kids tonight - always a wonderful treat.

Looking at my weather app, it will be cooler in CO starting on Colorado. Possibly with much needed rain. Any break coming in the heat wave in other areas of the country?

@Colorado_mom happy birthday!

Always a treat to have the kids on a call together

Today is the start of a heat break for us. We’ve had SO many temperatures starting with a “9” this summer! Next few days will be in the 70’s.

Starting to notice that it’s not light till a little later in the morning! I’m always out before 6:30 and am starting to see that shift…

At my parents lake house the next few days. Usually we don’t stay overnight so I don’t run. I’m not a fan of running here. It’s just one road in and out, and not by the lake. Very hilly and super muggy and gross.

And even better, my mom went out waking and said there was a mama bear and her 3 cubs by the road a mile up. So I only did a bunch of loops 0.5 mile in one direction and the 0.25 mile to the point in the other direction. I went maybe 6+ miles. Now my clothes weigh 10 pounds.

But my niece is here and is the licensed boat driver. This was last night.

Pickleball Players - What kind of shoes do you wear?

I’ve been just using my well cushioned Saucony Omni 19 running shoes. Noticed slight pain in one knee (but not while playing, and could be from biking or gardening… or lol, not enough activity - that was what caused worse knee pain year ago). Got me thinking about shoes.

I have a group of about 12 players, and I’m pretty sure we all wear tennis shoes or pickleball shoes.
I have thin-ish feet, and I’ve been wearing Diadora, as has someone else in our group (I think they are called torneo 2, but not sure). I’ve also worn K-Swiss and ASICS. I know another wears Wilson, another wears New Balance, and another wears Sketchers, and one wears Reebok (but they may not be actual tennis shoes.
I may have already told you this, but please wear eye protection!

So by “eye protection”, are sun glasses OK? (ie not goggles). Actually this evening, assuming the rain passes, I plan to wear my transition glasses. I always wear glasses for distance eyesight .

Yes - anything is good. I wear glasses daily, so I have either sunglasses or regular glasses. ALL of “my” players who don’t wear regular glasses are now wearing goggles or eyeglass frames that have no glass in them (this option makes me nervous but I appreciate the effort).

Thanks for the pickleball shoe info. Looking online, several local stores carry pickleball/court shoes including some you mentioned. But… digging more I see that most styles are online order only. I’ll stop by Dick’s and DSW and try what few they have in stock at store.

Would you need different type of shoes for outside vs inside? Would something with a rubber sole work better inside?? (more grippy)

Oh - Good question. For me, currently all my beginner pickleball opportunities are at the free outdoor public courts.

I don’t think I’ve ever been able to try on pickleball shoes at a local place. There is 1 that has lots of in-store options, but it’s pretty far away. So, I wind up ordering online and having to take them or send them back. It’s rather frustrating, because I really like to have multiple options. Roadrunner sports is where I’ve purchased some of mine, but we canceled our membership so I will now be looking for other places that have free returns.
ETA I always do “all court” option, I believe, to play both indoors and outdoors. I never do clay court shoes.

Last night I went to PB courts for tentatively resched’d Wed group play. Nobody showed up, but I was asked to be 8th person for a skills class (put on at a park by the local club I recently joined; funny because I had been on wait list for a class last Mon). It was fun.

Last night I wore a pair of walking shoes - better than running shoes, but still decided I needed PB (or court) shoes. Tried on many pair at DSW. Narrowed it down to 4 pair. Then bought 2 pair for home trial. Fila (see link - got them for $36) and Keds (will return).

NOTE: The 25% off coupon also worked on the Keds that said “not eligible for coupons” on the sign.

Had a nice run this morn (cloudy / low 60s… dodged a few rain sprinkles). Alas, the lovely temp did not translate into a fast time.

I hope they work out well for you. I’m glad you’re enjoying PB.
I played 3 hard hours of PB today. Now my shoulder and right side are sore. I played harder than I’ve played in quite some time.

I haven’t been here in awhile. Still practicing yoga, walking and enjoying barre and dance classes. The big news is that I have a medical issue (one I don’t care to discuss here, but it won’t kill me) and after finally getting into a specialist, I have surgery scheduled for January. After recovery I should be able to resume running, which I have really missed.
