@gpo613 adding my congrats! That’s quite an accomplishment.
I’m just a lightweight here, but I just use 5-8 pound weights a couple or more times a week to help keep “old lady arms” from getting too bad. I keep them in the room where the TV is and just do them for a few minutes.
I do those, but it seems it works the muscles below the wrinkles. Maybe I’m just not doing enough
Yes, exercise will work the muscles. Building them up bigger can help fill out the skin and give it a more shaped appearance. But the actual skin elasticity I don’t think there’s a lot you can do to stop aging process. Drink plenty of water, avoid sunlight, etc might slow it down a little.
You tried to kill me!
I tried several single leg deadlifts the day before yesterday and I’m more sore than I’ve been in years!
I had to take an Alleve before I go play pickleball this morning.
@conmama - I have started using pure shea butter in my skin (I think you may have recommended it on make-up thread …?). When I use a ton on skin it really seems to help smooth it and make it shiny (combined with lots of heavy lifting to build muscle).
Played my first game of pickup in more than a month on Sunday. TBH-- it was a little rough. There were certainly some muscles that didn’t really get the same type of workout while hiking (i.e., no quick burst while hiking).
I’m scheduled to play tonight and the weather will be really gross. There is also a significant chance of thunderstorms so we’ll see what happens.
Yep, we are always reminded that regular cross training is good for a reason! Sticking with one thing doesn’t make you as versatile!
How is everyone surviving the crazy heat that’s impacted many of us? I’ve been riding indoors some, and playing PB early in the morning. But I’ve been eating more than I should these days. Lots of birthdays and other reasons to celebrate.
Good for you for playing pickleball early! It’s been sooo humid in the east coast … walking in the evening is much better than midday.
I’ve gotten to 25 lbs on the assisted pull up machine (down from 50). Striving for that unassisted pull up at some point!
We were on a 22 day road trip (4850 miles, still married), visiting with lots of family and friends. I did manage to do three 5k sea level runs and some nice walks (including one with a CC pal).
Back at home this week it’s been to hot to run (and sigh - bad air quality to to wildfire smoke; lots beter now). But the big news is that I was able to join in July beginner pickleball lesson #4 (had missed the makeup class from June rainout). I reconnected with another classmate doing same, and she helped me get on email chain to do weekly beginner play with our June classmates. Also I joined the local pickleball club ($25/yr). I am not good enough for tournaments, but they run free skills drill sessions.
That’s exciting !
Glad you’re still married.
It’s been a very hot summer overall. The east coast has had it worse I think.
Swimming has been my pinch hitter for the summer. Still having some sciatic pain though it’s getting better. It’s made me tentative to overdo though, especially running.
Well the Elliptical Olympics continue. I have lost 104 lbs since beginning of Feb.
The kickoff time for my weekend soccer has shifted from 9 to 8:30.
I’m still playing on Tuesday evenings and it is gross.
I’m definitely not walking as much as I need to though
A lot of swearing and cursing and stomping and moaning and groaning! These last two weeks haven’t been as bad as the previous month. We’re only at our normal hellish temps instead of consistently 5-7 degrees above. But I was sick of it 2 months ago, so now it’s just unbearable!
I haven’t changed my routine though. Just grumbling through it like every year.
Had a thought about getting up to run early. But I was deterred by concerns abut altitude and air quality…… and laziness. Instead I had a mellow workout of cycling and walking at the lake (had to finish the last hour of my Beartown audiobook).
I’ve read at least 2 of what I think is a series of 3 Beartown books.
After being back home at “a mile high” elevation for a week, I finally went for my usual lake trail 5k run today. Had to do it a 6:30am to beat the heat and sun glare. Not my best time, not my worst. But really, the main goal was to Just Do It. Today happens to be my birthday, so afterward there were many more calories consumed (including beignet) at breakfast out. So be it. Happy to be in better shape than I was back in 2017, when I started couch-2-5k training. Many thanks to all the encouragement from this group!!
Happy birthday, Colorado_mom!
