Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Ah no. I practice freestanding handstands, but I’m not stable enough to do push-ups. In the old days, when I did crossfit workouts, I would do them against the wall. Now, some of my workouts call for pike presses. Think downward dog - the smaller/tighter the V, the harder the press. Of course flexibility also comes into play…

Interesting! I googled Pike Press - a cool combo of strength and flexibility. I’ve done yoga off and on for years but never looked at that type of mix. Going to try!

Oh no! That’s not what I was talking about. This is an easier version of headstand pushups. I used to sort of do something like that in headstand. Tap your toes up and down in like position. Great ab workout. Not a shoulder workout. I’ll see if I can’t find something that shows it.

Edit - here it is. But the closer your feet are to your hands, the more weight is shifted to your shoulders and it’s harder.

Ah - I see! Little easier than that wild pike headstand in the first video lol. Although I’d love to learn both! Thanks for sharing

Congratulations!!! But more details please!

Congratulations @sherpa!

Hear, hear!!!

Huge event. Over 24,000 finishers. It started in waves of a few thousand at a time. It was mind blowing. For example, the lines for the porta potties stretched seemingly without end.

We were well prepared. We’d carbo loaded and were well rested. We set our alarms for 6:00 but I was awake at 4:30. It was cold so I wore running tights under my shorts (oddly, most women wore leggings but less than 20% of men did. Male pride?).

We were in one of the last waves to start. Being in a late group we were placed with the slower runners. We passed a lot of people and not many passed us, which felt great. We knew the pace we wanted and kept to it all the way. We only stopped for a potty/stretching break about 5/miles in but even there the ones were agonizingly long.

She had a friend with us as well and the three of us ran well together. Afterward we all agreed that we’d have been slower running separately.

We had friends and family cheering us on, and they managed to see us three times during the event. Seeing them was energizing; best of all, son’s GF had mounted pictures of our faces on sticks which they were frantically waving.

We picked up the pace at the end and finished strong.

I’m incredibly happy, first to have completed it, but also to have done it with my daughter, and to do it with only 7 weeks of training.

This is a story from this years old thread that I am always going to remember! What an amazing accomplishment!

Will you continue to keep running in your routine in some way???

Originally I thought I’d quit after this event but I’ve got the fever. I’ll continue doing 5-8 mile runs through the summer and see how it goes after that.

I can only imagine how much the experience meant to both of you after all you’ve been through. Most excellent job!!! Kudos!

Went back to the gym on Saturday 4/26. My hernia surgery WAS 4/18. I only did elliptical. Nice to get back. I had been walking during the week. I go to a post op appt on Wednesday. I will find out there when I can get back to lifting.

I’m struggling to decide whether to finally work out today. Still coughing up stuff, but it’s been more than a week. :slightly_frowning_face:

What an amazing accomplishment! Congratulations. The most important part is that you both had fun and finished upright and happy. Congratulations again!

@sherpa Congrats to you and your DD. A “half” with 7-8 weeks of training ain’t easy. And I hope you caught the running bug.

I certainly won’t put it into the @gpo613 “hernia surgery” category, by any stretch, but I broke a molar last week, which became extremely painful, very quickly. I got an emergency appt. and went to the dentist last Thursday and the dentist spent about an hour fixing it.

Now Monday, I’m still taking one 200mg Advil for the remaining pain. My face had swollen up like a golf ball on my right side, the day after my dental work. Fortunately it didn’t set me back too much in my training schedule. But I did take Thursday (dental work day) off.

This after I had a root canal about 6 months ago. I now am starting to question when people say “age is just a number.”

And I’m with you @Youdon_tsay, seems as if I’ve had something (cold/flu/Covid?) back-to-back now for a month, but I keep training. I feel about 99% now. Slight cough still.

Well, in other sushi news, I took a PT job in a local “state off the art” fitness facility. I’m going to try it out for a while, as my potential future retirement job possibility. No, I’m not retiring yet from my other job, but a PT position came about in this large membership, well-funded, well-regarded gym, I interviewed, and got the job.

I’m back working in a gym again. :upside_down_face:

Love that for you! Let us know how it goes. Hopefully there are membership perks for you as an employee.

Thank you! It’s definitely been a minute.

Yep, there are lots of benefits (medical, dental, vision), which I do have already thru work, discounts at the local cafe, free coffee, and of course, free membership to the gym.

I am going to be honest here. The hernia surgery wasn’t a big deal. I didn’t have stitches where the robot stabbed me 3 times. They just glued the holes shut. I was feeling fine. I went to the grocery store the next day. Advil for 2 days and poof back to normal.

Hopefully everything healed fine and I can do more stuff soon.

OMG, those are great perks! Well done, I hope you like it!
