Fitness, Nutrition and Health- All Welcome (Hardcore and “Light”)

Interesting. But it is annoying when 25,000 number is not put in perspective. At first I was thinking… well probably millions have tried Semaglutide. But then I see the article mentioned that they studied “dozens” of hospitals. In other words, it’s hard to know what percentage risk.

Just checking in for accountability. Weight is staying about the same and I figured out the issue too. When I am coaching, I definitely burn more calories but mealtimes are often a little more wacky so I end up have the urge to snack more too or I eat early and am more hungry even the evening.

Easily getting good exercise 4-5 days per week. Gym has been a little harder but still making it most Mondays

I am quite frankly shocked that 1 in 8 adults feels the need for these products!
I know there are some people who have legitimate issues that prevent them from exercising, but it seems like many could benefit from trying some sort of exercise every day.

It drives me crazy when Wegovy and Ozempic are lumped together as weight loss drugs. Only Wegovy is specifically formulated and intended for weight management. Ozempic is formulated for diabetes management. Both require a healthy diet and exercise to be effective. I could not tolerate Ozempic and experienced significant GI pain and hypoglycemia. I lost no weight. My doctor has suggested a surgical procedure to permanently alter my digestive tract in hopes of managing my diabetes. I exercise daily and follow a calorie and carb restricted diet. I’d be interested in seeing the actual study rather than People’s spin.

I don’t have a lot of strong feelings about these drugs, but I did have lunch today with a friend who has had back problems for a long time. She’s lost 45 pounds on Ozempic, which is great, but the best thing is that it’s prompted her to finally address the back pain. She said she never would’ve addressed it if she hadn’t first lost the weight. She has never exercised in her life so when the PT said to engage her core, she was like “What? How?”

I’m thrilled for her. I’m so glad that she is investing in herself. :purple_heart:

Finally got on the scale this morning after a couple of weeks. Exact same. After 10 days of no exercise and a couple of poor eating decisions. My weight is just stuck no matter what great things I do or don’t do. Frustrating, but it’s better than gaining. :woman_shrugging:

Warning nerdy tracking post

My new hearing aids have a fitness tracker and I decided to turn it on just for fun. I did 30 minutes on the stationary bike and the tracker counted over 3K worth of steps. My garmin watch did not count any steps during that time

Well I’ve never heard of this before with hearing aids!

They are bluetooth enabled and I can use an app on my phone to control them. The fitness tracker is just another part of the app.

I can also the bluetooth to stream music. I used that feature at the gym last night and it worked very well.

It sounds like the kind our secretary has. She gets all her phone calls through her hearing aids, and can listen videos from her phone/ipad on them, like earbuds. She loves them, and they seem very cool. I don’t think she’s be interested in the fitness part though!

I was frustrated to get a cold last week (after having had a long one last month too). Although I was still able to play pickleball, I didn’t run. This meant I didn’t sign up for the 5k fun run around the local lake for Saturday, which makes me a little sad. But I did play a lot of PB, some days which had been planned and others as last minute sub.

Yesterday I went to a PB drills clinic. At intros I mentioned that I’ve been a runner but do like being with people for PB. He said studies show that Tennis and PB players live an average of 7 years longer, partly due to the benefits of socializing. Now I think it can be hard to prove cause here (maybe healthier people stick with sports?), but I still thought it was an interstesting stat.

If only we could be assured of all those years research says we “might” get by healthy habits!!

I’m not necessarily looking to live a lot longer… but I’m hopeful the healthy habits keep me more mobile and content. Certainly laughing on the court has been fun.

I’ll take BOTH.

I’ve had enough time now to get over my failure. So, FYI, I went 8 of 9. Squat and bench went fantastic. PR’ed both. I was excited.

Then, after being successful on my 1st two deadlifts, the choice on my final lift of the day was, do I add a lot of weight to my 3rd attempt at the deadlift to move up a class or do I be conservative and add a modest amount of weight to break my “total” PR.

I chose poorly. Had I hit my final lift, I may have gotten “best lifter” of the meet. :person_shrugging:

Oh well, there’s always next year. I’ve now entered the stage of my life where I’m “inspirational.” I turned into the competition’s mascot, because I’m old.

I just keep doing my thing. Today husband and I did our first kind of “hard” bike ride outdoors. We went 28 miles, but there were lots of rolling hills. I worked hard not to push myself too early.
I am only playing PB 3x a week these days. I’ve dropped out of Sunday drills because it’s at an inconvenient location and they don’t have bathrooms. I had to pick - give up my 2 lattes or the drill session - I gave up the drills
I’m not walking as much as I do sometimes, I guess bc I’m playing and biking more. But I did get new running shoes, partly bc of tariffs - I got new PB shoes too.
I need to get back to doing light weights and balance exercises more.

Nothing wrong with being inspirational!

I had the longest hike of the calendar year yesterday – both length and time – 20 miles over 8.5 hours. My pace was relatively slow because:

  1. It was constant uphill/downhill up to an elevation of 11,000ft.
  2. A good portion the distance involved snow/ice, and I was wearing mesh walking shoes without poles or other gear.
  3. I was intentionally trying to avoid high intensity and maintain efficiency. I did not break a sweat throughout the trip. My dog had a different strategy and was constantly sprinting after squirrels or getting zoomies in the snow, yet she also was not breathing hard throughout the trip.

lol just realized my pictures are not near as nice as Data10s! Ha. But I was happy with my final workout before heading on vacation.

Ran 3 miles outside before the gym opened, then a what is pretty hard for me now 8 miles in just under 61 min. Then 20 min c/d on the bike. Then I practiced some pull-ups in pike position (my new focus) and some other abs. And then handstands.

Some guy at the end said he was very impressed with my handstands. And asked if I was a triathlete. Nope.
