Fitting In?

Will I fit in?

Things I like to do:

Listen to Music (Rock,Hip Hop, Pretty much anything w/ a good beat)
Play Gutair, Piano, and Flute but mostly Gutair
Sing BADLY lol
Dance EVEN WORSE lol

Kick around a soccer ball or play volleyball

I’m very interested in politics (Semi Conservative, but I like to hear liberals point of view)

Talk about ANYTHING and EVERYTHING

I’m pretty shy, but once you get 2 know me I’m probably the most outgoing person you will ever meet.

Count me in on those conversations. I will be your fellow semi conservative. :)

I am also semi conservative. It will be nice to fit in politically for once in my life.

Yes, you’ll fit in. You can meet new people every day in college, if you want to. There are so many people, tons with interests that are similar to yours. Especially at a large school. Don’t you worry. You will be just fine. =-)

I will be new to UVA this upcoming fall as well! I am also a bit nervous - not so much about fitting in, but those first few days on campus I wont know anyone. I am going to try and get in the Jefferson Debating and Literary Society (i think thats what its called  ), but I have plenty of clubs I’m interested in as a back-up. I’m also going to be involved in Campus Crusade. Getting involved in clubs has to be the best way to get to know people on campus - so I’d definitely suggest doing that.

I’d classify myself as republican/libertarian…my views weave in between those parties. I cried when Ron Paul left the race WAHHH!!

Does libertarian == semi-conservative?

You guys will all be fine. I understand you are all nervous, as would be expected, but I think it will be a pleasant surprise once you get moved and settled in.

honestly, no one on here knows. There are certainly numerous opportunities for you to get involved but it’s up to you to take the initiative to get involved and meet new people. No one is going to come up to you and be like “Hi! want to be friends?! I’m involved in [list activities]” UVa is large enough that a vast number of viewpoints on politics exist. There are conservatives, liberals, independents, tree huggers, avid tree killers, and everything in between.

Follow ercmilla’s example and research what clubs you may want to join before getting to UVa. I’ve done this and unfortunately, I’ve found too many. By looking at groups/clubs to join, it could help you in making friends, especially if you are very shy.

yes.

be active and open and you’ll never want to leave.
