Owner has decided to cancel the extremely complex and expensive floating staircase. Mostly because it’s going to delay the project another 2 weeks. He put a Deposit down Dec 1st. They sent a bunch of sheets to fill out for measurements and I had those back by Dec 5th. Then we get an email to set up a phone meeting. Waited a week for that. Nothing important in that call. Another week goes by and then I get a call from an engineer to go over the measurements. Two weeks later we get “engineering drawings” that were all wrong and they kept pushing the owner to sign them. Another week later, drawings come with stairs blocking front door. It’s now been another set of drawings with issues that I don’t like still remaining.
I basically told owner stairs are not to building code requirements (in minor areas) and will have to be built AFTER final inspection of current permit and he could get called out by a future buyer. Wanted him to understand those risks, and the fact that it will push schedule for him to move in. He finally gave in to scheduling pressure.
I’ve seen those LED floating circle and geometric lights IRL and they look really cool.
I seem to be the only person who actually liked the look of the firefly light. Although from the reviews clearly it would be unwise to take a chance on it. I guess I like the more airy and delicate look of many little lights, like stars caught in bare branches. (Waxing poetic! B-) )
Please, no smoked glass! And I think the ones with the opaque white mushroom-like blobs look like 60s/70s plastic or something you’d see in a commercial foyer. Maybe they are better IRL.
Seems to me that he wants something on the more fanciful side, so the LED lights would work. There are certainly many options along those lines.
Dang, I looked at the specifications very carefully for the LED light… last on Marilyn’s list… it only hangs 36" down from ceiling at max wire length. That is going to look kind of stupid in this house because the ceiling height is about 13 ft at the mounting location. my opinion is light will be mounted too high for the space
It’s usually pretty easy to replace the wires with longer ones.
A bigger problem with that light is that it’s not dimmable. 2400 lumens is a lot of light, I think it would be too bright to have that fully on all the time.
I’m holding my breath on when the scaffolding is going away. My drywall guy hasn’t called up for it. But I think the ship has sailed to get the light easily installed.
I love every one of those Marilyn!! I’ll send them all to him. I do believe he is loosening on the statement light idea, especially since he has now come up with an incredibly expensive 3D wall tiles he wants on his fireplace. We are very scared on how we are going to make perfect miter corner cuts in these foam fiberglass panels. I recommended the Dune design since it is a coastal view house
Yes, today a heated towel rack showed up (we are already installing radiant floor heating mesh stuff) and I had to remind him that there wasn’t any wiring or electricity near where he wants this installed
And now he’s talking wired remote controlled blinds that need wires run through a bunch of living room beams. That scaffolding better not go anywhere
And, did Imention there are at least 6 remote controls here before you even turn on a TV or stereo. And he wants them all tied to his phone to control everything from his phone. Lord help him if he loses his phone or it goes dead. He won’t even be able to get in the door:)
