That vanity is cute!
I’m not sure about the living room cabinets. Could they be painted the same white as the walls? They look a bit drab in comparison.

I may be looking at another push out of the schedule.
Last week my carpenter informed me that he has to have root canal dental stuff done. These guys drive all the way down to Tijuana to get dental work because it is 1/3 the cost of the US. So, he is out for 4 days. Then my backup carpenter #2 (part of the framing team who I hired to stick around) ended up in the hospital Wednesday night with an inflamed Gall Bladder. He had surgery yesterday for Gall Bladder and 2 hernias. He insists he will be back to work on Monday but may only be allowed to lift max 10 lbs. I’m not exactly sure what he is going to be able to do
So, that’s about 4 days x 2 of the key guys with no work getting done. I’m left standing around with one landscape laborer and 2 unskilled laborers. I am spending all day trying to come up with things for them to do that doesn’t involve complicated power tools. Let me just say that our project is very clean right now… lots of cleaning going on.
Just the other day I noticed that our windows are just a big mess. Then I realized “Holy Moly” how are we going to get up there and clean all those windows 3 stories up. So, we will have to hurry up and do that before the scaffolding goes away. And the scaffolding is costing me about $150 / week that we don’t get it taken down
Cb, love the quartz countertops. Quartz is a popular choice here in homes priced $2M+ - and these are higher end homes by my local standards.
Living room cabinets are probably the same white. They just have plastic wrapped around them that is throwing off the camera. I won’t let the guys unwrap them because I am thinking of returning them
I’d love a black/charcoal grey counter in that kitchen. Then you could use the prep table with a stainless top and black legs. ![]()
I vote for ditching the living room cabinets altogether. I think they really detract from the room.
The vanity is cute, great shape, and as long as the floor is wood rather than the blue and white tile I think it’s fine. Like the tie-in to the gate and the front door, color-wise. I am not crazy about the color of the top with the green, but oh well.
Continue to love those sconces. WOndering how they would look in my house. ![]()
Agree about the top… it’s got some weird tan (with a hint of rust) veins in it but it’s natural to the stone so I will live with it.
I am thinking hard whether to paint the powder room walls a fun color but it is hard to think of a fun color that will go with the shade of green. I would have to go some type of grey and it could be a mistake. Maybe I will just leave the walls the same white as the main part of the house but have some great shine in the mirror and lighting.
I’m going to say that the sconces are the best $35 every spent!!! I sure hope they look good after all that tile gets into the master bath
Now that I have decided to keep the vanity I have to search for a nice mirror with some interest to brighten up the small space and the 2 sconces. Because I want 2 sconces flanking the mirror, the mirror needs to be a little small or an oval shape
It’s all coming together nicely. Sorry about the health issues of your workers.
I’m not a fan of green, but the powder room vanity is nice.
Do you really need those cabinets in the living room? I’m not sure I like them…at all.
Lights are really nice.
Sorry about the workers not feeling well…but ack…root canal?
This house is looking fabulous.
OMG. I missed the part about your workers getting all sorts of health issues! No, the guy with a gallbladder surgery cannot lift 10 pounds. No, no, no. Macho men. Have one of my own… Appendix removed, the next day he was at work! Eek.
Sorry about all the health issues.
House looks wonderful! I’d vote to return those cabinets in the living room. They just don’t do anything for the space.
I agree about returning the cabinets.
I’m glad everyone agrees on the cabinets in the living room. My original vision was to have built ins for audio equipment and stuff. But they just don’t look right. I think the fireplace surround stands on its own. Won’t hurt to get some money back in the till right now:) I think buyers should get a nice piece of furniture for the space
How much did those cabinets cost? Any chance the money could be diverted to the kitchen island?
Well, I’ll be the outlier on the living room cabinets. Because the fireplace juts out, it creates two alcoves on either side. Those alcoves are useless unless (a) you install the cabinets, or (b) someone buys nice furniture to put in it. As someone who has finally recovered from living with an annoying alcove in my master bathroom (by having my contractor build a custom cabinet), I know how impossible it can be to find the just-right furniture piece. I think the height of the cabinets is just right; one can put some pretty sculptures on the tops of them. IMO, the built-in cabinets would give that wall a complete, finished, coordinated appearance.
The return of the cabinets are definitely not going to get close to $1,700. Probably $500 to $600
If you are going to do cabinets in the LR, I think you need different ones. These look small and chintzy to me.
ETA I like the idea of built ins…I just don’t like these.
Will the cabinet fill the whole area between the fireplace and side wall? If not, they won’t look like built ins anyway.
I think I’d prefer dark wood built-ins to cheap white ones.
