Get the rangetop!!! Do not hesitate! That design is SO much better for cooking (more space), easier to clean, AND gives a much higher-end finish to the kitchen, partially because most of them cost thousands more than the Bertazzoni. I think that’s a factor in going for a higher price.
I can’t recall at this point what you decided to do about ovens, but if Dacor–which is a great brand–is running a special on their ranges, I would seriously consider going for one of those with a less expensive electric convection wall oven elsewhere. Or a Dacor rangetop and wall oven.
I currently have knobs on the top and hate it! I’d spend the extra to get the knobs on the front I think that option looks more substantial and give the kitchen more of a WOW factor.
I’m guessing that the Rangetop (with knobs in front/pro style) will have more of a Wow factor as buyers come into the kitchen. My only concern was that small kids might start playing with knobs on the front? But, I need to stop worrying about everything and do what is right for the Wow factor
So now I am on the hunt for best price, biggest sale, discontinued, scratch and dent range top!
Honestly, I do not care what ‘brand’ the ovens are. The issue with ovens, dishwashers and refrigerators is that it is important to find products that have the same styling for handles, etc. Believe it or not… that is what I have to focus on. I could buy the highest rated refrigerator and then the highest rated oven but I would be wasting my money… buyers will be put off if the ‘styling’ is not cohesive
A much more significant safety concern for people with 3 yr olds would be that their bedroom is on a different floor! I wouldn’t worry about that, I’d go for the WOW factor.
Cabinetry is not an issue, as long as I know what I am putting in BEFORE I order the cabinets!! That’s one of the huge mistakes I usually make. That’s why I have to go select appliances before I design/order kitchen cabinets. It’s a chicken and egg thing. Then the dang appliances get delivered and sit around for months and months subject to damage - like the last project. I’ve tried many times to postpone actual delivery of appliances but the stores refuse to hold them and I can only postpone delivery for a couple of weeks.
Another thing that I want to share with everyone… the ‘warranty’ on appliances starts the day you purchase and/or the day you take delivery. Sometimes I eat up 4-5 months of the warranty waiting to get construction complete and sold.
Stucco Guy
I love my stucco guy and he has been working with me for years now. He is actually very busy now and I’m guessing that is part of why cost is going up. I plan to have a discussion with him about ‘packaging’ a good price for the entire project. And, it might be that there are a lot of holes and patches that are causing the price to be higher than I normally pay.
He is recommending a Montalvo finish for this house - I’ll have to start researching what the heck that looks like
Interesting opinions about knob placement. I love knobs on the top; find the clean front to be an aesthetic plus. Knobs on top, like the Dacor, are typical in higher end homes in my area.
I have a Thermador gas cooktop with right-hand controls that is a breeze to clean. It is white enamel, not ss though. Who came up with the idea of having controls are all bunched in the middle at the front on the top was definitely not a cook!
I paid for my appliances, which were floor models, the store held then and I did not register them for the warranty until they were installed 4 months later.
" I’ve tried many times to postpone actual delivery of appliances but the stores refuse to hold them and I can only postpone delivery for a couple of weeks."
I guess Ive had more luck- but the store I dealt with was a family owned business, not a big chain.
Im usually purchasing floor models from larger stores or from Sears Outlet and I guess they dont want to sit on them taking up space.
Filling out those cards is not mandatory. That’s just so you can get product updates or recalls or something. I have been specifically told (when trying to get a repair) that 1 yr warranty starts with date on purchase receipt
Are there any freestanding appliance stores in the Los Angeles area that you could hit? At this point they know which models have been discontinued.
What I did offer to buy the discontinued floor model at a discount but not pick it up for four months until they were ready to change out their showroom display
Interesting negotiation tactic I might try that!! "Hey, I’ll buy that off your floor now and you can send to me when you get new models for your display "
Knowing my luck about 100 shoppers will bang their strollers or purses into the appliance over the next 4 months and then some kid will start bouncing or slamming the open doors. I have no idea how a store could guarantee that a display model would be in same condition 4 months from now
YES! EXACTLY!
thats what I did with a subzero fridge- saved $3000, dacor double oven-- saved $2500, and mieli dishwasher- saved $300.
All delivered 4 months later when they changed their display to put in the new models.
I don’t understand how your warranty clock starts when you sign the sales receipt. We built a new home recently and, due to Subzero phasing out a particular fridge/freezer, we had to make the purchase when the foundation was being poured. The builder and the appliance store have assured me that the warranties for all appliances begin on the closing date of the house. I will not lose any warranty time while the house was under construction. I would think the same applies for you since you are making the purchases as a contractor.
It is one thing what the builder says, it is a totally different thing when the manufacturer asks for some proof of the date when the house was constructed… Per friends, a copy of CofO worked. A mortgage doc - not so much.
I’ll make sure I ask more specifically when I purchase this time. It may be a situation of purchasing a ‘return’ or scratch and dent from Sears Outlet.
I can understand the manufacturer. How would you prove that an appliance sat in garage unused for 6 months?
