Awesome! As we determined here in the Cafe, Wayfair is a fair shopping spot.
Two of these look nice above an island:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LR5IVIO/ref=asc_df_B01LR5IVIO4892578/
There is a pic showing them installed.
The Amazon link Bunsen posted said there’s a 1-2 month delay. Found the same thing on another site which says the mfr has backorders, but available 3/28.
I noticed that but was too late to edit, and my crappy phone battery died! CB probably needs something next week or sooner.
I find the Amazon listing humourous. It says “Usually ships in 1 to 2 months”. Who buys anything on Amazon that might ship in 1 to 2 months? Crazy
But, there are 2 ‘used’ ones available that are in new condition but the packaging is damaged for $30/each. Those seem to be available immediately.
I will show both of these to the owner this morning to see if she likes them. I think there is one very similar at Home Depot in a separate pendant glass and then you buy the fixture for the ceiling… I’ll let you know which one we pick
And then I need to convince her that she needs a showpiece dining room chandelier. We have wired up a central box in ceiling in the family room area for a dining table lamp. But, for now, she has a lot of recessed lighting in the ceiling. It might be that we forgo getting the dining room chandelier and she can pick one out later when she has saved more money.
Re: post 444. I’m confused…did you wires a central box in the dining room? Or the family room.
This house doesn’t have high ceilings. The last thing I would want in my family room is some statement chandelier hanging down in the middle of the room.
I would like to remove the hanging fixture in my dining room for a cleaner look. I would probably go with recessed lights in this house to maximize the open feel.
Well, if she chooses that one, at $30 each she can put any savings ($30-40, depending on tax/shipping) towards the deck! Good luck!
The family room has new LED recessed lighting. The dining table is going to be on the left side of the family room. We put a box in ceiling where table is planned. We want a statement piece of lighting hanging over the table. Its on a separate dimmer switch
Are they definitely going to have a table in that spot…definitely? If not, I would not put a hanging light there.
From the pics, the ceilings look low. Am I imagining that?
Since it’s a family room/dining room combo, I would think having more flexibility in using the space would be more important than a statement hanging light…which will make table place, ent there the essential thing.
Use the money saved towards the deck.
We had a chandelier over our dining table. My brother who is 6’3" would hit his head on it when he visited because sometimes the table would be moved a bit during family gatherings and our ceilings were only 8’. We have replaced it with a fixture that is only a few inches below the height of the ceiling and now never had to worry about anyone hitting their head on it. I think chandeliers are much better for HIGH ceilings otherwise they can make a ceiling seem even lower than it is AND people can bump into the light fixture.
Otherwise, you and everyone are doing a stupendous job on the house!
We have a Tech Lighting 3-light canopy fixture with three hand blown lights that drops down to about a foot above the center of the dining table. It looks great and no one would run into it.
The issue is…this is a family room and dining room. It is very possible that the placement of the table will move.
Unless you are absolutely sure that a table will be below this statement hanging light, I would not put a statement hanging light.
They can leave a wallplate on the box and add a light later if they want it. We have a wallplate on the ceiling in the entryway - to add a ceiling fan. We never bothered to add it, maybe the new owner will.
I totally agree…leave the plate…and use that saved money for the statement light towards that deck they really want…and seem to want more than a statement light!
You are all on the right track. Today I spent two hours with the young couple going over a lot of decisions we have to make. I recommended to them that we just cover the box now with a white plate and they can spend time looking for just the perfect thing! And save the money right now. I am not exactly sure where they will put the table at this point. I’m more concerned that the dorm room horrid dining chairs don’t come back into the room. Spend the money on getting some decent dining chairs. They don’t have enough for furniture right now so we know they will need at least two chairs pulled up to the dining table to survive until they save up new money for furniture.
Look on Craigslist. My kids have gotten awesome stuff for a song!
I was just going to suggest Craigslist, too.
Wayfair periodically has sales, so that is another option, if there is nothing good on Craigslist. I would advise them against getting some “temporary” junk - there is nothing more permanent than a temporary thing. Or IKEA! Just no to ugly crap that is landfill ready.
(I told Mr. - we are not moving any junk to our new place. I have a veto power on any piece that gets moved. )
Totally agree…no junk. IKEA is. Good thought too.
