I would not want a micro over that stove. Too claustrophobic already!!
How would a right-handed person cook in that kitchen?! There is no landing to the right of that stove. They should have moved the cooktop into the island, added a vent above, and kept the oven where the stove is… Guess they were too cheap to pay an electrician to rewire the space - ? 'Cause that’ll be the major expense… the rest is peanuts.
Note to all of us …how not to design a kitchen!! Besides the ridiculous stove problem, the combination of floor color, cabinet color, wall color and countertop are just plain ugly. Stove should have been located in the long run behind the island but I bet it had something to do with having to run a vent up through the roof and they cheaped out on trying to do the exhaust vent.
Clearly they did something wrong, it’s been on the market for over 3 months and come down in price over 30%.
I don’t think they were quote finished when they took these pictures, so they probably did put in a hood. And some other fixture besides a bare bulb over the island.
That long run of cabinets behind the island is on an exterior wall, so putting a vent to the outside would have been very simple. They probably should have moved or taken out that door so they could have put a big run of cabinets in the corner. Then they would have had more flexibility in where things went.
Yes, door to exterior is not necessary in kitchen when there are doors along waterfront balcony
The flippers went the cheapest possible route… and it looks like it backfired.
I’m also wondering why they didn’t open up the walls that surround the stairs. I would have opened up the whole first floor.
That would require structural work. Judging by the finishes in the kitchen, these flippers were not going for a masterpiece - a quick buck was their goal.
I wonder if they considered adding a second floor over the middle part of the house, so that all of the second floor parts were connected.
This would have given them the most flexibility for creating good floor plans on both floors. They could even have moved the stairs to more sensible location(s), instead of having them right in the middle of everything. And it would have made the house a lot more “normal”, which would appeal to a lot more people.
My guess is that they were trying to fly under the radar and avoid getting permits which would have been required for any structural work and/or addition of square footage
That’s what I think, too. But they could have at least tried to make the kitchen right!
I don’t think the permitting cost or process is that onerous that they would try to avoid it, especially for a project this size with a lot of exterior changes. Probably less than $2,000 total. Someone would have ratted them out.
Unless they seriously cut corners, and maybe they did.
But if I am buying that house, the first question I am asking is, is this renovation permitted? And I am checking at town hall to see if they were, and if they have been properly closed out or not. At that point they are busted and in a world of hurt.
We did that for our cape house, and discovered they never got the final inspection for the replacement deck that was added a few years ago. We required the seller to resolve that prior to close.
I’m surprised that it would be allowed to install a gas cooktop right next to a wooden partition!
And even if it is legal, it is dumb. The long exterior side would have been much better, and they could have a real hood. They could put a microwave shelf next to the fridge.
OMG next door to the Liberace house! http://www.sdlookup.com/MLS-170056538-2732_Nipoma_San_Diego_CA_92106 And just your kind of house - falling apart!
Are the dudes included?
go for it!!
It is looking good on the surface. Of course, it all comes down to crunching numbers!
This was the ‘eyesore’ next door that I spent a lot of time trying to camouflage from my project house. Remember the fence on the lower patio that was hiding the scary underside of the neighbor house? Same ‘dudes’ still living there. I cannot believe the agent took those pictures. They are hilarious…who takes pictures of guys hanging out on the house? These are the guys I gave a couple of cases of beer because we were making a lot of noise and I asked them to move their cars on the day of our photos.
Not interested in the house. Price is too high and the entire back is being held up by some spindly small 4x4s. The balcony on back of house, where the view is, is falling apart and dangerous. The whole thing looked sketchy to me. After spending a lot of time and money I sold for 999k next door after adding 800 square feet of living space on bottom of house. Purchased for 702k. Not going to pay $850k to renovate and try to sell about 2/3 of the house.
OK, I’m just going to eat my words!!! The ‘dude’ House is Pending in contract already. Wow!! People will pay for those views! Hope they inspect the structure under the back of the house
Wow - almost like someone was just waiting for it to go on the market to snap it up. It will be interesting to see what they do to it.
what are they going to do with it?
tear it down is what. they are buying that dump for land value- and the views- only.
welcome to my world- which apparently is now quickly migrating south to SD.
the thing is- SD county is one of the few counties left in Calif that allows Calif homeowners, like me, to transfer our pre-Prop 13/ 90 tax bills.
and that is helping to driving older NCalif property owners south to SD and Orange counties, which stlll accept the transfer of lower tax rates.
sorry about that cb… but it is a factor, along with a expansive economy and a stock market that just wont stop going up…
