Just to give you an idea of the local market, the Realtor who sold us our house recently listed a small house at $530,000: https://www.redfin.com/CA/San-Diego/5272-Gaylord-Pl-92117/home/6237977 (I did forward cb the pre-listing email the agent sent out.) Yesterday our agent posted on Facebook that she had received 30 offers and the house is now pending. She said " It was crazy but the buyer whose offer was accepted was thrilled per their agent."
CB, I’m guessing you would have been outbid if you’d moved on this!
Yikes indeed. That is the area where Bill G. built his waterfront compound. Homes that look perfectly fine get sold for $2M+ and get bulldozed down. Then a $5-6M mansion gets built… no views, tiny lots… the Chinese and techies buy them up. Just NUTS. Surreal.
My BFF lives two blocks from the beach in Encinitas. They bought an 800 sq ft wee ranch house around 1980 for $185k. I remember thinking how crazy that was. They have no yard (literally) and parking is on the street. They did add a third bedroom by going up about 20 years ago. It’s worth $2M now. They don’t have any view of the water as there are houses in front of hers.
Here’s how Mr. Crazy Agent works… earlier someone posted

He listed at $695,000 with a description ‘create urgency’ which is his wording on all listings that he is generating multiple offers. After 2 weeks he doesn’t get any offers and now suddenly he has changed asking price to $925,000. That is a huge difference and makes no sense. If he didn’t get any offers asking $695,000 how is he going to get offers at $925,000? My guess is he convinced the seller that asking $695k will generate a frenzy up to $900k. And now it will sit on the market for a month and then he will cancel and relist at like $915,000 or something so it looks like a ‘new listing’
This thread sort of morphed into a general RE thread… we have Cape Cod and other areas, too. No one told them to start their own thread. I shall no longer comment here.
@BunsenBurner , I don’t think that was meant as a rebuke. I think she was saying that more Washingtonians would find it and comment on it. Please continue to comment here.
^ what @Consolation and @ Marilyn said. I want the Flip #7 to continue, but I, too, would be very interested in a Seattle/Washington thread…will be interesting to see the continued effect of the tech world on the area…and the foreign investment as well. Wonder if some of the same issues that Seattle faces will happen to Amazon’s HQ2 new city…
Exactly, thanks, this thread concentrates on flips (and renovations perhaps) and follows cb’s search for a 7th flip. Separate general or regional real estate threads will draw in more posters interested in those subjects and promote discussions.
Until cb finds another house to flip, I don’t see any problem with having this thread be more a general RE thread. We don’t need a separate thread for every micro topic.
And I actually like having one thread to cover a broader area, instead of having to follow 10 separate threads.
Please do not appoint yourself the thread police. If you don’t like a post, just skip over it. It’s not like the volume of posts is so high on this thread as to be a burden.
The point is that people who are interested in discussing real estate in general (or regionally) are not going to know that it’s being discussed in a thread with a “flip 7” subject line. Is each separate flip thread (or cleaning thread or vacation thread or medical issue thread or holiday meal thread or exercise thread) an unnecessary “micro topic”? A general real estate thread (not exactly a micro topic) will allow additional interested cc’ers to participate far more than the limited audience who tune in here.
My apologies if suggesting starting a topic thread that would allow interested parties to find it and join the discussion was offensive in some way. In no way did the language in that suggestion criticize or object to any other post in this thread.
Nice house and some views (with lovely overhead wiring, of course). It does look like some work to restore would be needed, but it certainly is tempting.
