Flip This House - My Own Home

My tile guy was not going for cutting the white marble curves to try to match the tile. The issue was that some of the waves came to a sharp point and it would have been impossible to cut perfectly into the points. You can see the issue in a couple of the older photos of the samples

The tile looks fantastic. Sorry to hear about your floor woes!

Are you doing heated floors in the shower?

Yes, the floor heating goes into the shower. I made sure I purchased heating that was rated to be in the shower. Its going to be heaven:) and thats from someone who lives where it really only gets about 50 on the coldest winter night:)

Ok, playing devil’s advocate here, but what is the point of a heated shower floor? It probably takes about 10 seconds of warm water from the shower to warm up the floor tiles. I have a tiled bathroom floor - I turn on the shower, wait until the water gets hot, then get in, and by that time the floor is no longer cold.

The rest of the bathroom, I can see that it would be nice to have.

Stepping on a cold shower floor in 50 degrees - I am with you. Love that you are doing it. Personally, I am just paranoid about any electrical stuff close to water, GFI or not! I was deadly afraid to go into our bathtub until my husband convinced me that our jetted tub can’t electrocute us because the on/off buttons are pneumatic and don’t have actual live wiring to them. Plus, the pump is on a dedicated GFI…

If I’m going to go to all the trouble of laying down the floor heating, might as well go into the shower, especially since there is no lip or dam or separation between the shower and the rest of the floor. We would have had to float the shower floor up to match the remaining floor that had the heating wires and thinset on it. I’m sure I’m going to love it.

At any point, a bathroom floor could have water. You get out of the shower and walk around and there’s water. So, I’ll get electrocuted if something goes wrong anyways

Love love love the shower!

So pretty!

The shower is lovely. Is the drain on the other side?

It’s a linear drain that runs along the wall where the shower head is.

The shower looks spectacular. Does someone have to grout around all that mother of pearl, or is it finished already?

Still needs to be grouted. Lots of grout going in tomorrow morning. I’m going with a white tone on shower walls and toying with a very pale grey grout for floor. To make it blend together a little bit rather than ‘pop’ each piece.

The drain is the long grey rectangle in floor directly below the fixtures

I keep coming back to look at that gorgeous shower!

For the studio deck, do you need a solid roof, or could a gazebo-type overhead horizontal structure with boards on edge and openings between them work?

Going with a solid roof. Worried about wind and wood disintegration if I have some small pieces of wood for a shade style ceiling. 2x2s across the top would look nice and provide a pseudo roof but they are a maintenance nightmare.

Have you considered a retractable shade concept? Tenant could have the deck fully shaded when outside and full natural light when inside. I’d hate to have the room darkened by a permanent roof.

I’m really worried about heavy wind storms out front. I like the idea of retractable shades but I’m worried they will rip off the house if left open during winds

Well, one should know to retract them during heavy winds.

For the price, I’d be willing to give them a try!

MBR looks great. Would enjoy a photo of the apt. kitchen’s tile.
